We shape technology. Technology shapes us.

It carries our voices, holds our memories and extends our reach. When it stops working, the relationship doesn’t end. Its material remains.

On International E-Waste Day, 14 October, we came together at African Artists’ Foundation in Lagos to explore our symbiotic relationship with technology through conversation and collective making.

Working with discarded electronics, Ozuma Patrick Chidiebube and fellow artists created The Landscape of Thalluses. Inspired by lichen, the installation asks us to consider how deeply human life and technology have become entangled.

Cables, keyboards and sockets became a way to think together about dependence, obsolescence and what remains.

How do we live with what we create?

It basically started as a way to gift my bjorgelttor, and then my friends and then I realized I was getting more pleasure from picking flowers, from discovering tiny little plants that we usually overlook cause they’re not exotic, or cause they’re not very familiar or maybe they’re too familiar.

There’s something beautiful about noticing what we’ve learned not to see.

was way to happy on the last slide. 😅 exhibited alongside @the.mio_space (who's an extremely brilliant human icel) as part of his Adulthood exhibition last month.

funny how, I've not even shared it since then 'cause adulthood.

there's a lot to say, but what stayed with me, was how many people, even tho' they loved it, were surprised to learn that motion graphics and animation can exist as art in a gallery space, or can even be considered as an art medium in general. it reminded me that we're still at the beginning of a lot of conversations in Nigeria.

There's still so much work to do. Still so much to show.

yeah, also had to explain to a lot of people that the screen is okay, it's just part of my mograph artstyle. 😂😂

AMEN.

An unforgettable moment at @the.mio_space ’s solo show ✨

The exhibition holds his work, some collaborations, and I’m honored to be one of the artists in it.

This piece is “Holding Still” — the one Michael and I made together.

Michael was my senior in school at UNILAG, and I’m really grateful to him for believing in my art and collaborating with me on that piece.

It carries two stories. Mine, his. Childhood to adulthood, and everything we’ve lived since. Different paths, but we met in the same place.

And it reminds us of one thing:
Even when life is heavy, even when everything is pulling apart... we need each other to hold still.

Big love to my school colleagues and friends who came around to witness that great moment with us 🙏🏽

On “Adulthood”:
To me, adulthood is the moment you clock your responsibility as a human. Age doesn’t matter. Awareness does.

Every piece told a story, every conversation sparked a new perspective, and every moment was a reminder that art has a beautiful way of reflecting the realities of adulthood. #AdulthoodExhibition #ArtExperience #CreativeJourney #VisualStorytelling #ContentCreator ArtLovers WeekendRecap
