Of this past year, exactly one year ago today I couldn’t have imagined I’d be surfing Rottsnest Island and feeding Quokkas with @clairebevo on my bday... I couldn’t have then imagined road tripping to Keramas from Bali for xmas with @toposanae in a 60’s VW bug (that brokedown on the return trip 😂) and later getting to catch some of my biggest waves yet at macking Serangan. In Puerto Rico, I didn’t expect that my closest friend made would have been an ex-rikers island inmate who still impresses me with his kindness especially after Hurricane Maria (he lost his job to volunteer the last three months in areas the gov’t still hasn’t gotten to). I did expect at least one good snowboard trip and glad I got to share it with my bruddas from different mummas @the.walshman and @mark_bauch But most especially didn’t expect to meet a CEO in the back of a pick up truck on the way to a surf spot in Puerto Escondido, who eventually convinced me to move to Paris to work with his company. Of everything this year, I’m the most glad I was able to help my friend Josue with a gofundme campaign. He lost his roof and all his life belongings from Hurricane Maria. Through the support of family and friends he now has a roof for his house. Thank you again to everyone that pitched in. Today for my birthday, I’m back in Bali with a best friend that recharges me, my surfing and my booty shakin dance fuegoness. Big hugs to my family and friends that helped me along this very interesting past year with a party wave, couch, bed, beer, coffee catch up, evacuation ticket (thanks mom and dad), mountain hike, or quality phone catch up. What a year... love you all mucho ❤️

I've already made solid headway on my spring cleaning around the house, but now I need to spring clean my soul. I'm ready to make some changes. 🙌🏻
.
We can all choose how we want to spend our time, and I've taken stock and found 4 habits that I am making a point to spend less time on from here on out:
.
1. I will avoid watching TV during the day.
2. I will avoid negative conversations about other people, unless they are in a problem solving context.
3. I will be less reactive to uncomfortable feelings of fear, anger, and sadness.
4. I will avoid making assumptions about others feelings, opinions, and intentions.
.
In the mission of improving oneself and breaking bad habits, I find it better to add than simply subtract. In place of my old habits I will be doing these things instead:
.
1. Spend more time outside.
2. Spend more time discussing what I love and admire about people I know.
3. Take more deep breaths and force myself to experience a waiting period before I react.
4. Communicate when I don't understand someone's behavior, and ask them to clarify.
.
These changes won't necessarily be easy, and won't happen overnight, but I'm determined to be a happier, calmer, less stressed, and more discipline me.
.
If you were to spring clean your soul, what are some changes that you would make? 💗

Before I went to bed last night, after a wonderful day, it occurred to me that I often ruminate on what went wrong in a day, but don't always give the same energy to reliving and appreciating what went right in a day.
.
So, I did something I rarely do of my own accord: I meditated. 😳
.
Meditating, in the sense of clearing my mind, scares me. It's really difficult for me to entirely empty my mind of thoughts, and with this as my goal, I often ending up feeling like a meditation fail.
.
Last night though, I gave myself a theme and a challenge (challenges motivate me). I set a timer for 5 minutes, closed my eyes, and silently started listing people and things, as fast as I could, both big and small, that I'm grateful for. 🙏🏻
.
My challenge to myself was to find so much gratitude that I would run out of time before I ran out things to list. This seemed a tall order, because 5 minutes of mediation, to me, usually feels like 20 (and not in a good way. 😉).
.
However, with the theme of gratitude as my guide, 5 minutes ended up feeling more like 2, and before I knew it my timer had chimed and my meditation fears felt even more ridiculous than usual.
.
I woke up with a smile, and maybe even a new nighttime ritual. ✌🏻💗😃#grateful .
