The Gi program continues to grow—not just in numbers, but in the depth and understanding of JuJitsu.

We’ve spent a lot of time building connections between Collar Sleeve, Shallow Lasso, De La Riva, and X-Guard. Rather than treating each position as a separate entity, the goal is to understand how they connect, how to transition, and how to keep creating a strong offense.

Proud of the consistency, and effort this group continues to bring to the mat. The progress is showing.

Great room, great energy, great work.

Yesterday we had over 40 people on the mat with Taza working through defensive acumen for the ADCC ruleset. The focus was simple but important: stay safe, avoid giving up points, understand the scoring windows, and make better decisions under pressure.

Everyone came ready to learn, train, and level up. Huge thank you to Oliver Taza for sharing the details and helping the room sharpen up before the weekend.

We’re back at it today with another session at 12:00 PM.

Don’t miss it.

The Gi is a force multiplier.

The collar gives you immediate access to the neck.
No need to clear space under the chin. No need to fight for underhooks.

You can go straight to the strangulation with minimal effort and maximum output.

The collar is a built-in weapon.
It allows you to maximize leverage using body weight, angles, and opposing pressure to finish.

This is why we place such a high emphasis on collar chokes.

At our academy we frequently use what could be described as active drilling. The idea is simple. Rather than practicing a technique in a completely cooperative environment, we perform the movement up to a specific point and then introduce controlled resistance.

This resistance provides immediate feedback. It allows the practitioner to identify where the mechanics of the movement are correct and where adjustments are required.

In this example we are focusing on the transition to the chair sit and the subsequent back take. By isolating this moment and adding resistance, the student is forced to execute the movement with proper structure, balance, and timing.

Over time, this produces a far more reliable back take under realistic conditions.

Tonight, we promoted Z to purple belt — and the emotions hit deep.

🟪🟪🟪⬛️⬛️🟪

He’s been a blue belt for 3 years. No complaints. No ego. Just showing up, asking questions, rolling with everyone, and doing things the right way.

Z is humble, consistent, and one of the most supportive teammates you’ll ever meet. He leads by example, lifts the room, and makes our team better just by being in it.

This promotion wasn’t just about technique — it was about heart, growth, and character.
We’re proud of you, Z. You’ve truly earned this.

The Crazy Dog pass is a great option off the knee shield position. It works well because it has an equal ratio of pressure to mobility making it a very strong pass to use from the knee shield. It also creates many reactions that can lead to other passes or controlled positions.

Why It’s Effective:

Deceptively mobile. You’re applying downwards pressure without committing your weight, so you can switch sides or redirect the position easily.

Disrupts frames. The posture hides your centerline, making it hard for the guard player to use well structured frames or bring their feet to the hips.

Creates dilemmas. If they commit to framing you have access to leg drags, leg weaves, north south, and side control. If they turtle they give up the back.
