One of My Best Meals This Year. And It’s Plant-Based. - - SWIPE left 💥

LAMDRE 兰斋 — Beijing

I finally got to experience @lamdre_beijing Lamdre in Beijing, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Chef Dai Jun @chef_daijun.lamdre who I was told has over three decades of experience exploring plant-based and regional Chinese cuisines makes a compelling case for Chinese plant-based cuisine—not as a substitute for meat, but as a culinary experience worthy of the spotlight in its own right.

And while my first encounter with Chef Dai’s cooking at a special plant-based six-hands dinner held at Le Du in Bangkok, alongside @cheftonn and Chef Dej had already left a stellar first impression, my lunch at Lamdre in Beijing surpassed even those expectations. Thanks mucho @dej_kewkacha 🫶🏻 for inviting me to that mind blowing dinner, where you also served an amazing pineapple 🍍 dessert 🍮 💥.

This is a must-visit for any serious food lover in Beijing. It’s the kind of meal that challenges preconceptions as it reminds you to keep an open mind and that memorable cooking isn’t necessarily about what’s missing from the plate, but what the chef brings to it.

One to watch: YIAGA @yiaga.au

Australian restaurant YIAGA is named the 2026 Visa One to Watch by The 50 Best Restaurants @the50_global

Located within Melbourne’s historic Fitzroy Gardens on Wurundjeri Country, the restaurant is crafted almost entirely from Australian materials, reflecting local traditions and craftsmanship. Its evolving menu provides a sense of discovery while chef-owner Hugh’s leadership and passion allow him to create a personal connection to the diner, creating a deeply intimate experience that feels tailor made to the individual.

Two weeks after @the50hotels award ceremony in Paris, I’m revisiting one of the questions I was most curious to ask the people behind some of the world’s best hotels:

Where do they actually choose to stay, drink and dine?

Their answers took us from Paris and Kuala Lumpur to the Dolomites, Toronto, Marrakech, London and the Amalfi Coast.

Thanks @imeldashllaku (@fstaormina), @silviovettorello (@passalacqualakecomo), @andreaskeese (@sacherhotels), @eduardogtzr (@chableyucatan) and @myriam_kournaf_lambert (@hotelducouvent) for sharing your tips!

A little insider guide, straight from the people who know hospitality best.

As September comes to an end, I wanted to share one of my favourite bar experiences from August, especially with @the50bars 2026 announcement coming up on 7 October. 🍸✨

While in Colombia, I finally made it to Alquímico in Cartagena, ranked No.11 in The World’s 50 Best Bars 2025. 🇨🇴

What I love about @alquimicocartagena goes far beyond the cocktails. The team works closely with local farmers and producers, grows ingredients on their own farm and gives back to the communities around them. And YES, the cocktails were delicious, but please don’t overlook the food! Their plant-forward menu was genuinely incredible. 🌱

This one also felt a little closer to my heart. I remember hearing Jean Trinh’s name announced when I attended The World’s 50 Best Bars in Singapore in 2023. French AND Vietnamese? My immediate reaction was basically, “Hey, that’s my cousin!” 😂 A little French/Québécois joke, but there was also a genuine sense of pride.

To finally visit his bar, experience what he and this beautiful cocktail family have built, and see how success and giving back can coexist was incredibly special.

If you’re in Cartagena, Alquímico is an absolute must. Come for the cocktails, stay for the food and the incredible energy. ❤️🇨🇴

Now counting down to 7 October to see what 2026 brings! 🍸🌎

There is no single measure of hospitality excellence.

A Michelin Star speaks to the kitchen. Forbes puts enormous weight on service. 50 Best is about influence and the experience as a whole. Michelin Keys look at hotels through a different lens entirely.

With so many global honours now shaping where we eat, drink and stay, it helps to know what is actually being judged.

Consider this your guide to the names behind the stars, keys, pins and rankings.
