Newest single dropping today, my Uncle Paul's birthday, and one month out from the full album release of "Snakes". My Uncle Paul was my first musical influence. A complete badass vocalist and guitar player, he got me my first electric guitar that I still have on my wall. I wrote this tune for him when he was really battling cancer (to which he succumbed three years ago). This is the live version we recorded at the 1905 in June last year. A studio version will be part of the album. Rock on, Uncle Paul. I miss you.

Flutist and composer Elsa Nilsson explores unlikely connections across society and the natural world. The Gothenburg native left Sweden for Seattle in 2005 before settling in Brooklyn in 2010. Her openness and refinement have prompted collaboration with Ravi Coltrane, Steve Cardenas, Jon Cowherd, Chris Morrissey, Karl Berger, Robert Dick, .... and many more.

She’s named Flutist Of The Year in the Downbeat 2025 poll, is the 2018 winner of the National Flute Association’s Jazz Flute Competition, and the recipient of multiple Chamber Music America grants, including a 2022 New Jazz Works grant for Band of Pulses.

Have you been to The 1905 yet? It’s a small intimate jazz bar located off of Mississippi Ave in North Portland. We went for the first time tonight and it was magical. The group playing tonight was The Mel Brown B3 Organ Group and they were just incredible. Tonight reminded me of long forgotten piece of myself who used to love going to small venues for live music (jazz, blues, classical, world, anything).

I’m excited to incorporate this love of music back into my life.

What other locations should I check out for great music?
