Your favorite Eagle business isn’t guaranteed to survive the next year. In fact most of them likely won’t.

I’ve been fighting for local businesses in Eagle for more than a decade. I’ve watched housing costs rise, the workforce shrink, overhead climb, and online giants undercut local businesses at every turn.

Meanwhile, online sales tax revenue in Eagle grew 155% from 2019 to 2022, while Downtown Eagle’s declined. That says people are spending money. Just not in their towns.

After 18 years in business, I’m tired of watching small businesses fight this hard just to stay open. And I’m tired of seeing people care only after their favorite places are gone.

If we want our valleys restaurants, shops, studios, and small businesses to still be here next year, we have to support them now, not just miss them later.

Spend local while local is still here. Tag your faves.

Owning a small business is not for the faint of heart.

Behind the assumptions and the things you see on Instagram, there are long days, cash flow stress, hard decisions, mistakes, pivots and a whole lot of figuring it out as you go.

Which is why being recognized by your community means so much to all of us.

This year our three businesses are nominated in four Best of Vail categories, and that feels pretty damn special.

Not because awards are everything (they’re not). But because these businesses represent our teams, our families, the risks we’ve taken and an incredible amount of work that most people will never see or even consider.

And I know that’s true for every small business on that ballot.

So if you take a few minutes to vote for the local businesses you love, just know those votes mean a lot more to us than you probably realize. 🤍

Is the customer always right?

I’ll start by saying I have been in business a long time. And 99% of my customers are lovely humans that I’m so grateful and privileged to work with.

AND… I’m finding there seems to be an increase in people who just love to complain these days. Nothing helpful, nothing productive, just complaining.

I’m loving the push back I’m seeing from business owners these days. Not apologizing for who they are and how they run their businesses.

I love small business and I hope that as a small business customer I always consider “is what I’m saying or how I’m acting kind and necessary?” Or should I just find a different business that’s more in alignment with my needs and wants.

Your small town business heros are typically one man (woman) shows with small staff, high overhead, and family at home. They are doing the best they can to bring something they are passionate about to life. Let’s give them a hand for showing up!
