Last week, we had the privilege of hosting our first jazz trio. An important milestone that we are deeply honored to have experienced.

This occasion allowed us to remain true to our jazz kissa (ジャズ喫茶) roots while continuing to cultivate a third space dedicated to free expression, artistic integrity, and the enduring spirit of live music.

A special thanks to @navypierchicago & @chicagoliveofficial for initiating the community engagement program designed to connect local neighborhoods with the city’s top performing arts organizations.

Jeremiah Hunt - Upright Bass
Samuel Mösching - Electric Guitar
Brent Griffin Jr - Alto Saxophone

Great evening at Parallel Play for Keepin’ It Movin’: The Art of Jazz.

We talked about listening, taking risks, improvisation, finding your own voice, and the democratic nature of making music together… and, of course, we played some music.

Thank you to everyone who came out and participated, and thank you to Chicago LIVE! for helping make this community engagement possible.

See you at Navy Pier this Sunday with KIM! 🔥

Hey Chicago!

This Thursday, I’ll be presenting “Keepin’ It Movin’: The Art of Jazz” as part of Chicago LIVE!’s Community Engagement.

This will be an interactive presentation exploring jazz through live performance, conversation, and demonstration; looking at the creativity, communication, discipline, and individuality that make this music what it is.

I’ll be joined by Samual Mösching & Brent Griffin as we play, demonstrate some of these ideas, and open the floor to the audience.

Thursday, September 17 | 5–7 PM
Parallel Play | 825 N California Ave
Free & open to the public

And then on Sunday, come catch KIM at Chicago LIVE! Festival at Navy Pier • 5 PM on the Lake Stage.

See you there ✊🏾

We're back, baby. The first SBB show since the end of the world was a sold-out listening room banger that made me feel alive. And nervous, until it actually got going. There are some remarkable people who helped make it happen:

@evanstonspace built a listening room that opens people's ears and hearts. @chirpradio sponsored and spearheaded a local show, a real live local show.

@panachebooking trusted @ezra.furman.visions in adding SBB to the bill, and their combined trust in this project kept me awake late into the night for the last couple of months of preparation.

@the_bgj brought a sound that stirred the room and awakened dormant passions. @schmidtrecording kept the musical elements in balance, and sailed through storms behind the console.

@marleepower supported in so many ways she should be on the album cover.

Talking with people in the room afterwards was so rewarding, and hearing that the music made people feel things was all I needed. Someone even brought a cassette from 2017.

We are now over the hump: a show has been played. More to come.
