#ljspecialsteps "Although there are lots of physical things you can do for someone during a crisis, most of the time we are just going about our normal daily routines. Our normal may look different than yours but everyone’s normal is different. .
With that in mind, If I had to name one thing that people could do for parents with differently abled children it would be not to pity us or treat us differently. Pity is never helpful. .
My normal is pretty typical of mom raising 4 kids, 2 older boys and newborn twin girls. My boys wake up late and have to be rushed out the door so Shmu does not miss his bus. He doesn’t alway have the energy to walk the mile to school, his brother hates the bus and walks or scoots there every day. We have fights about homework and cleaning up the legos (bane of my existence). .
What might be different, what people don’t see, the day to day of keeping Shmu healthy. Seizure meds, steroid slurry and inhalers to be given twice a day. Special formula to be made and feeding tubes to be filled and hooked up. Fights about said feeding tube, that feeding tube leaking in school and kids teasing him because it stinks. Not being able to have sleepovers, my heart racing every time the caller ID says his school is calling. Procedures, surgeries and uncountable hospital stays. Insurance denials.

It isn’t easy but we manage well. But his accomplishments and milestones, his positive attitude and his loving helpful personality shine through it all. We are thankful for the great community we live in and all the amazing people who have helped us over the years. ❤ - @estirosenblatt
