Discover a unique collective of contemporary silversmiths and metal artists at the upcoming pop-up exhibition 'FIVE Ways of Seeing: Material, Process and Form' at the Goldsmiths' Centre.

Founded to foster new dialogues around material and craft, FIVE (@the_five_collection) showcases work defined by precision, material experimentation and contemporary interpretations of traditional techniques. This exhibition celebrates the expressive potential of silver and metal through objects that blur the boundaries between sculpture, design and function.

@angela_cork and I are absolutely thrilled to have received a Gold Award for Craftsmanship for our recent collaborative project at the prestigious Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council Awards at Merchant Taylors’ Hall last night. It was such a lovely evening celebrating the extraordinary talent across our industry!

This recognition feels especially meaningful, as the Emberstone Vessels mark the first pieces we have made together in precious metals. While we have known each other for nearly ten years, much of our work has centred on championing silversmithing and promoting the craft through initiatives such as the FIVE Collective.

For this collaboration, Angela meticulously crafted the vessel forms entirely by hand, while I developed the surfaces through my signature texturing and gold fusion.

Our Emberstone Vessels received the Gold Award in 3D Craft – Senior Silversmith’s Craft (sponsored by @grant_macdonald_london) and the Silver Award in 3D Design – Silversmithing. We were also delighted to receive the Gold Award alongside @alewijnslingerland. The three of us came through @bishopsland_educational_trust at different stages, so it felt especially special to celebrate the moment together!

We are very grateful to the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council for organising such a wonderful evening!

Aluminium, porcelain, leather, cardboard, bamboo, acrylic, polyester organza, spalted beech, recycled denim, monofilament… The diversity of materials at @collectartfair was as compelling as the objects themselves.
I found this particularly fascinating from a jewellery perspective. With gold prices at record levels, many makers are exploring alternative materials and pushing boundaries in unexpected ways.
@johayesward 's use of aluminium is fantastic. @kayosaitojewellery worked with spalted beech, while @emmeline_hastings continues to experiment with carved acrylic, exploring new shapes and themes.

The pieces shown here are not all jewellery but the conversation around materials is especially relevant to contemporary jewellery.

Having got home last evening and pretty much gone straight to bed I'm now in that weird post show 'what now' phase! I managed to get a few photos from around the show but not as many as before. Here's a few of them. There's always lots of beautiful things but what I like most is the people and especially bumping into friends, some who you've not seen in ages.

While our usual posts spotlight our silversmithing programme and our incredible network of makers, this week the spotlight turns to our hard-working team.
@angelacork has been exhibiting at Collect Art Fair — and while we may be biased, @the_five_collection presentation of contemporary silversmithing was nothing short of inspiring.

@jamie_watson_silversmith, our Workshop Coordinator, travelled to Yorkshire Art Space in Sheffiled to further refine his already legendary chasing skills with @rodbsmart and @cbsilversmiths. An invaluable opportunity to deepen expertise in such a creative and collaborative environment — huge congratulations to all.

Meanwhile, our CEO Claire has had a full week in London:

• Peter Taylor’s retirement party at @gsmithscentre — a wonderful moment to thank Peter for his longstanding support and encouragement of Bishopsland past and present.

• The Lady Mayor’s Heritage Crafts Taskforce meeting at Mansion House, discussing the impact of crafts on the British economy, a renewed focus on apprenticeships, and the vital role of the Livery Companies in championing emerging talent.

• And finally, a spectacular dinner celebrating the creative industries, hosted by the Prime Warden Ed Butler and Annie Warburton, CEO of The Goldsmiths’ Company. It was an honour to share the evening with @foxsilverltd, Tom & Tim Fattorini and fellow supporters of the sector.

A week of creativity, collaboration and championing excellence in silversmithing — exactly what we’re here for.

Such a pleasure to attend @collectartfair as a visitor. Live fairs bring such joy and I’ll never tire of them. A visual, tactile feast of beautiful works complemented by seeing so many of my favourite people in this wonderful world.
