Bassist and arts administrator Thomas Zera joins us today to share what changed between our first chat years ago and now, including life in the Utah Symphony and the path that led to building his new project, The Sub Pool (@the_sub_pool) We dig into what The Sub Pool is, why orchestra sub lists so often “run dry,” and how a centralized, musician-friendly platform can help personnel managers find the right players, including for rarer instruments and big-repertoire needs. Tom also explains how the service is designed to be low-friction for musicians, what feedback has shaped the early feature set (including faster notifications), and what they’re building toward next. Follow @thefearlessartistmastermind and @the_sub_pool Finding substitute musicians shouldn’t be this complicated. Personnel managers often say there’s no standardized way to hire subs. Every orchestra seems to have a different process, and for musicians it’s not always clear what they’re being asked for or where opportunities are. In this episode, we talk about how a system built around 608 orchestras aims to simplify the process, making it faster for managers to find musicians and clearer for musicians to understand the work, availability, and regions they want to play in across the US and Canada. 🎧 Curious how it works? Comment SUBPOOL below to get the full podcast episode to hear the full conversation. be fearless, love de and mich #classicalmusician #musicentrepreneur #musiciantruths #redefiningmusic

Follow @thefearlessartistmastermind and @the_sub_pool Most musicians are building things no one actually asked for. And asking three simple questions can change the game for you: Is it needed? Is it wanted? Does it have any value? Because this is where so many musicians get stuck. Putting time, energy, and creativity into something… without knowing if it actually matters in today’s industry. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🎙️ In Episode 82 with Thomas Zara, we go deeper into this, and what musicians should actually be focusing on right now. 👇 Comment SUBPOOL below and we’ll send you the episode. be fearless, love de and mich #classicalmusician #musicentrepreneur #musiciantruths #redefiningmusic
