🚨 MARATHON IS FINALLY GOING TO FACE THE PUBLIC... and last week's meeting left me with questions.

After the Aug. 4 refinery incident that reportedly released more than 15 TONS of pollutants, residents packed the San Juan Senior Center wanting answers.

Veronica Carbajal was there.
Josh Acevedo was there.
Escobar was there.
Residents living near the refinery were there.

But MARATHON wasn't. 🏭

Neither was TCEQ, the Texas agency responsible for much of the refinery's environmental regulation.

That's important because TCEQ is NOT part of the federal EPA. EPA says Clean Air Act permitting in Texas is primarily TCEQ's responsibility, although EPA retains federal oversight.

So if Marathon wasn't there and TCEQ wasn't there, what exactly could a member of Congress accomplish for residents who came wanting answers about Marathon? 🤔

To be fair, Escobar DID send letters to EPA and TCEQ. But residents weren't there for another Republican vs. Democrat vs. Trump conversation.

They wanted answers.

Meanwhile, residents, Josh Acevedo and City Council have been pushing locally to get Marathon in front of the community.

And now Marathon is finally showing up.

📅 Oct. 6 at 6 PM
📍 Riverside High School
301 Midway Dr.

Marathon says it will discuss what happened, emissions, air-monitoring results and changes to community notifications.

And then there's this. 👀

📸 I took this photo TODAY, Sept. 1. You can clearly see a plume coming from the refinery area.

A photo can't tell us what's in it or whether it's dangerous. But after Aug. 4, residents shouldn't have to wonder what they're seeing or breathing.

This shouldn't be about who gets the microphone, the politics or the photo.

Get Marathon AND the people with actual authority in the room with the people who breathe this air.

What do you think? 👇
