From thrift find to showstopper. 🙌🏻 Alyssa at @the_things_we_built brought home a dresser with chipped veneer and a whole lot of potential, and turned it into something you’d never want to leave the room. Patched, primed, painted in Abyss, and that stunning wood top stained and finished with One Hour Enamel Clear Satin, because why would you cover up grain like that?

Sold almost immediately. We’re not surprised. 😍

You might think this video did well because it’s a DIY – and that certainly helps.

But this video’s success actually comes from the fact that she used a psychology-backed marketing fundamental here that you can use too.

It works because our brains don’t evaluate things in absolute terms – we evaluate them relative to the expectation that has just been set.

Here’s how you can use this in your content.

Basically you want to contrast how you went from a painful/relatable “before” to a desirable “after.”

Here are a few examples:

Business Coach: “How I went from charging $50/hr to $500/hr” instead of “How I charge $500/hr”

Interior Designer: “POV: you didn’t want your living room to cost $10,000 so you paid $200 instead” instead of “living room decor for under $200”

Financial Advisor: “How I went from $0 in savings to $50K invested in 18 months” instead of “how I gained $50k in 18 months through investments”

Esthetician: “POV: you go from 10 years of cystic acne to completely clear skin in 8 weeks” instead of “how to get clear skin in 8 weeks”

Real Estate Agent: “POV: you bought a $400K home for $310K — in this market” instead of “how to buy a $310k home in this market”

Personal Stylist: “I went from hating getting dressed to having a closet I’m obsessed with – for under $500” instead of “redoing your wardrobe for under $500”

Moody, elegant, and endlessly sophisticated 🦉
Alyssa @the_things_we_built has absolutely nailed this transformation in Earthen Ash — the perfect blend of drama and depth.

This rich, refined neutral brings a sense of calm luxury to any space — perfectly complementing those black framed doors and that moody atmosphere we all love.
Proof that bold doesn’t have to shout to make a statement 🖤

Beautiful work, Alyssa — pure artistry.
