- SUPRISE GUEST SPOTLIGHT - KARIOI AND KAVA -
- WHĀINGAROA/RAGLAN - 24/10/26 - WIREMU -
@wiremutahi @wiremu.co.nz

Wiremu is a proud Māori boy with whānau links to the King Country, Taranaki and Whāingaroa/Raglan.

Born on a couch 20 years ago in this little town we call Whāingaroa/Raglan. He spent the first stint of his life with Mum on the solo benefit. It wasn’t flash, but they always had a radio going, that’s where he found a love for music.

He started rapping and singing along to artists like Cypress Hill, Tupac, Biggie and all the rest of them OG old heads. He loved Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill and other talented singers.

Destined to make musi, Over time Wiremu started writing his own lyrics and put in the mahi to figure out the different nicks and nacks when it came to spitting his rhymes.

He sees music as a form of expression and creativity, telling stories in a way that can help others, yourself, or even just to get it out.

When asked, “Who inspires you?”, Wiremu replied:

“My main inspirations aren’t necessarily limited to big stars and acts, rather people who have come from not much and made heaps (opportunity & life) out of their music. Tom Scott, MELODOWNZ, Manu, Mokomokai and more talented artists from Aotearoa. These are all normal people who made a name out of what they do by sharing what they love.”

- KARIOI AND KAVA - 24th OCTOBER -
- THE YARD - WHĀINGAROA/RAGLAN - 2BREW
@2brewmusic

"2BREW are a DJ DUO from the far north. Their journey began in 2025 and since then they have been exploring the motu through music, sound and dance.

Labour weekend marks there official one year anniversary of djing, they are coming in hot off playing many gigs so trust me when i say you dont want to miss this set.

Their sets bring together sounds that feel familiar from the shed, the backyard and beyond. music that simply makes you feel good, gets your heart pumping and connects us to each other, our cultures and our tīpuna. When they perform they only have one goal…follow the feeling.

When asked why people should come hear them play at'KARIOI AND KAVA' 2BREW said :

"Its its simple two wāhine. One vibe. All cultures. One dance floor.”

Today I’m back in Gisborne, dropping off the rental truck and wrapping up the On a Roll Tour.

It’s a bittersweet moment. After so many years, breakdowns, repairs and unforgettable journeys, it’s time to say goodbye to the Pineapple Express. This van has carried Bigbada Boom, the sound system, and so many beautiful sessions and memories across Aotearoa. She’s been through a lot with me. 💚

Being back in my hometown for the first time since Cyclone Gabrielle forced my whānau to leave has brought up a lot of emotions. My childhood home has since been bulldozed, and being back here brings so many memories flooding in. Some chapters of life close in ways you never expect.

Through all of this, I’m incredibly grateful for the support shown to Bigbada Boom and our Givealittle fundraiser. Thanks to you all, I’ve found an alternative vehicle to keep things moving. But it’s going to be a long road ahead, paying off the finance while keeping my business running and continuing to bring sound system culture to the people.

Every donation, share, message and bit of support makes a difference. If you’re still able to help, our Givealittle is still open. Link in Bio

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for backing Bigbada Boom and helping keep this kaupapa alive.

Big respect to you all. One love, big bass, and onwards we roll. 🔊💚🍍

- KARIOI AND KAVA - 24/10/26 -
- WHĀINGAROA/RAGLAN - NÂÂWIÉ/KANIKANI'KY -
@now_we_are_ @kanikani_ky

Nââwié is a proud indigenous wāhine toa, her ancestors are from Pwäräiriwa Kanaky & she has Anglo-Argentinian lineage ("probably related to Marie Antoinette tbh")

"I am water, born in water on the hottest day of 1993 in a backyard of grey lynn, Nââwiè means a field of waves, my totem is water and sharks, my clan are water and my whānau in Pwäräiriwa live by a huge awa and i reside on Te Motu-arai-roa / Waiheke island .
Our ancestral chiefs spoke stories around waterfalls and this rhythm of the water falling was the original backing track inspiring Kaneka music from my Kanaky kin."

Both of her parents are strong isurgent activists and both of her siblings are in cornerstones of government and gig spaces across the motu.

Nááwié is a Artist, performer, activist, storyteller and is a soulful sound selector under the name KANIKANI’KY

Tune in to KANIKANI’KY on 'Glovebox Resort' radio Fridays 6-8pm 88.3/104.7FM @waihekeradio were she spins some of her favourite tracks by artists she loves such as Romi Rights, Moonshines, Erykah Badu, Ron Trent, Gallegos, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Gil Scott -Heron, and more.

When asked what people can expect to hear at karioi and kava her response was :

"Music is a network, a conduit, a sonic web weaving connections and kōrero, My Kaiori & Kava set will echo the three claps 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽 in the kava sesh: for the past, present and future. Expect a non-linear journeying, ancestors present and vibrations surging"
