Last week we went to Liverpool for a business meeting and decided to stretch out the trip to see the city for a few days. We arrived armed with some general knowledge of the city’s history, zero expectations, and an open schedule.

What we learned is that Liverpool is so much more than the place The Beatles were born. But, after spending a few days exploring, it was easy to see how the worldwide ambassadors of peace and love came from this incredible, friendly city.

We started with an evening on Matthew Street, saw a show at @cavernliverpool, and loved walking in the footsteps of that musical history. A pint at the bar, and songs from sixties played from the iconic stage to an enthusiastic crowd. Great vibes all around.

What we found beyond Matthew Street was a city full of interesting history, diverse culture, beautiful architecture, delicious food, and above all… some of the nicest people we have ever encountered anywhere.

In the 4 days we spent walking all over the city, we had countless conversations with perfect strangers who were sincere, interested and generous, and it was the most memorable part of the trip.

Traveling without a definite schedule gave us the freedom to pivot, and each of these random conversations gave us insider suggestions, and we took all of the advice.

This lead us to unexpected and incredible places and kept the adventure exciting. We can’t wait to go back.

A huge thanks to Laura, Benny, Magda, Bernard, Trevor, Mark, Martin, Helen, and other nameless strangers for the warm welcome and great tips!

Due to a yellow weather warning remaining in place until 9pm this evening, Sunday 25 October’s River of Light event has been cancelled in the interests of safety.

Some remedial works to installations are also required following damage caused overnight by Storm Boelo.

With improved weather conditions forecast for Monday 26 October, tomorrow’s event is currently expected to go ahead as planned.

We were kindly invited to the preview evening of the River of Light 2026, what an absolutely amazing evening! 🤩

This year’s theme, ‘Together’, features 13 incredible light installations transforming the city, I honestly think this is the best year yet! ✨💚

Our favourite was ‘Flower Power’ at Exchange Flags, we could’ve spent all night there dancing, it needs to become a permanent feature in our city! 🤣👏 🌸

I am one of this city’s biggest advocates, and when Liverpool puts on a show like River of Light, it makes me ridiculously proud to call this place home ❤️

There’s something so special about seeing people come together, follow the trail and fall in love with our city all over again.

We managed to see 12 of the 13 installations last night, and I’m determined to find number 13 before the week is out!

Choosing a favourite is almost impossible. The artwork, locations and the way everything complements Liverpool’s incredible architecture make the whole experience so special ❤️

I also love this year’s theme, Together, especially seeing young people from across Liverpool contribute their creativity. Imagine seeing your child’s artwork on display. How proud would you be? 🫶

A huge thank you to all the artists, organisers and businesses who make this happen. Your hard work is so much appreciated!
