Have to s/o actor @lazofficial - Laz Alonso - who was at this year’s @mcmcomiccon

If you know Laz’s recent work, you’ll recognise him as Mother’s Milk from the series 'The Boys' on @primevideo

I love his portrayal of MM and how he has paid tribute to Hip Hop legends throughout the series by linking each episode with a hip hop tee with a nod to the culture.

Laz now owns one of my vinyl art paintings of Eric B & Rakim on the album Paid in Full. Learning that it’s one of his favourite albums and the story behind why he connects with it, tells me it went to the perfect home. 👌🏾

We had such a great convo; it’s clear he’s got a real love for Hip Hop. Looking forward to the next season!

P.S. Although it looked like I was cosplaying (I swear I’m too old for that now 😅), I genuinely own loads of Hip Hop tees — so putting my MM fit together was way too easy… alright alright I kinda did 😅

And on this occasion I had to rep @clipse, @malice, and Pusha T — tee by @carhartt for this 🙌🏾

Exploring all the artworks, helping refresh some iconic Shoreditch walls, having my work pasted among so many great pieces by amazing artists from all over the world 💘 ➡️ Remembering some of my favourite pieces and characters... and looking forward to next year! Thanks @apparan & @arthouseprojectlondon volunteers for your hard work to make this happen!

Cover photo: ‘Shaft’ by @theartfulfro , exhibited in the EmpowerHER’25 exhibition now open until 5th April!

Richard Roundtree’s portrayal of John Shaft in the iconic 70s film ‘Shaft’ is beautifully captured in Rachel Hosten’s mixed media artwork. Shaft might not be familiar to millennials or Gen Z, but in an era where Black men were often depicted in films as pimps and criminals, Shaft was “The Man! He was the epitome of 1970s cool with his signature ‘fro and long black leather jacket strutting through the streets of New York. Men wanted to be him, and women adored him.

Roundtree broke the mould showcasing a strong, complex Black protagonist who became a cultural symbol of empowerment and respect. His catchphrase, “You damn right,” encapsulated his no-nonsense attitude and self-assuredness. I think we can learn a lot from that.
At CasildART we walk our own path as this is the only way to ensure we stay true to our mission which is to be a catalyst for change in the art world.
The female artists in EmpowerHER ‘25 Creativity, Courage & Magical Thinking, share that mission by producing work that is meaningful to them, which also challenges current realities.

So back to Shaft, cool isn’t just a style; it’s a state of mind!

Weekendz vibes Down pan the Lane. The small moments that leaves a lasting memory

At the beginning of the year this young lady, Artist Rachael Hostan aka @theartfulfro passed down pan the Lane.
We got talking, swinging foot and joking in the shop as us Yardies like to do. After a while of conversation Rachael finally built up the courage and offered to create a piece of her artwork a portrait of me. The rest is Ourstory.

Rachael’s artworks consist of delicately and meaningful Hand-painted portraits onto Vinyl records. Capturing the essence and sprit of the sitter she chooses to work with.
Unknowingly Rachael was also picking my brains and painting a sketch of my journey in her mind. Building a picture of how she would paint/ capture this Yardie Bwoy.

I was truly blown away at Rachael, taking the time out of her schedule Saturday to come down and personally presented a part of her soul to me. That little gesture showed me that her #art is truly from her hart. Which means much more than any monetary value.

Presenting her work to me yesterday afternoon was such a humbling moment. A fellow artist capturing a moment in my life, and at the same time give me a moment of their life and hart.

Thank you Queen I truly appreciate your professionalism and work ethic. love your work and what it represents. I’m a fan. I’m sure this is the first of many. This one is for the Lane, but I will commission you to do others for my yard. One perfect love every time @uptownyardie
