Indiana Jones at the Smithsonian in Washington DC.

To be honest it was underwhelming. You know why? Because my @steele.and.jones “Smithsonian” jacket and @theatellacollective LC hat looked exactly the same. It was a strange phenomenon. The replica gear I was wearing was so spot-on it made the real thing look like another masterfully crafted fan-made work. Who am I kidding it was still incredible to see it in person!

Can cutting has been something I've really wanted to try, but I previously didn't know that a longer cracker with knots tied in the cracker was required.

Thanks to Blake Bruining at @trinitywhipco - who has been a mentor with my whip training (virtually as we live far away from one another) - I now have longer crackers and can work on these type of targeting tricks!

FORTUNE & GLORY - PART 2 OF 2

Getting your hands on the idol is one thing. Getting out with it? That's an entirely different adventure.

In Part 2 of my photographic tribute to the legendary opening sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indy finally gets his hands on the golden idol.

And then it's time to RUN.

What follows is my interpretation of one of the most memorable escapes in cinematic history. Fedora firmly in place, idol in hand, and absolutely no time to admire the scenery.

Photographed at the historic Bromide Spring Pavilion in Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, Oklahoma, this series was an opportunity to take an ordinary location and transform it into something straight out of a 1930s adventure.

That's been one of my favorite parts of creating these Indiana Jones images. Finding real locations, working with real photography, and using a little creativity to bring the spirit of the films to life.

This concludes my two-part homage to the scene that introduced the world to Indiana Jones. It's a sequence I've loved for decades, and recreating even a small piece of that adventure through my own lens has been an absolute blast.

FORTUNE & GLORY — PART 1 OF 2

Few scenes in cinematic history are as iconic as the opening of Raiders of the Lost Ark. From the moment Indiana Jones steps into that ancient temple, you know you're in for an adventure. The shadows, the mystery, the traps, and of course, that unforgettable golden idol.

For this series of images, I wanted to pay homage to the scene that started it all.

The location? Not some forgotten temple deep in the jungles of Peru, but the historic Bromide Spring Pavilion in Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, Oklahoma.

One of the things I've enjoyed most about this ongoing Indiana Jones photography project is finding unexpected locations and seeing what I can create with them. Sometimes it's less about finding the perfect setting and more about recognizing the possibilities in a place most people would never associate with an adventure film.

With a little imagination, some careful compositions, one added light, and a camera, a historic Oklahoma landmark can become the setting for an adventure straight out of 1936.

This is Part 1 of 2 of my tribute to the legendary Idol Grab sequence. Eight photographs, one familiar golden idol, and my own interpretation of a scene that has inspired my imagination for decades.

And as any good archaeologist knows, getting your hands on the treasure is only half the adventure.

I turned a very unlikely location in Oklahoma into my own version of the Idol Grab. Just me, my camera, one light, and a little inspiration from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I love when a real place can be turned into something else entirely and something spectacular with the right lighting, knowledge of photography, and the right compositions.

Golden hour light, a sunset, and Indiana Jones. Of course, the ending scene of The Last Crusade immediately comes to mind.

After nothing but rain, the clouds finally broke just in time to let the last bit of sunlight through, turning what looked like a lost sunset into a pretty damn good one.

There’s something about that last warm light on the horizon that makes you want to saddle up and ride off into it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a horse.

Guess poor Marcus will just have to wait.
