Supporting Filipino Australian performer @allyjandayan 💐💚

Alyssa Jandayan has a bright future ahead of her, especially on stage 👏🏾 amazing to see young Filipino Australian talents shine in their respective outlets 🥹🇵🇭🇦🇺

Alyssa,Ally played the role of Danielle. She did an amazing job! Nailed the right accent. Danced with the right spunk and brought the character to life. Her stage presence flowed well with the rest of the cast 🎭

Apparently my way of overcoming a fear of public speaking is saying yes to interviews… 🙈
What a great production this was.

A delightful evening starting off with an all areas access backstage tour from the orchestra pit, to the wings and lighting desk in the sky. Featuring the heritage listed venue that used to be a massive movie theatre before tv. From the dressing rooms to watching costumes being repaired, the cast warming up, we discovered what it takes to put on a show.
.
In this particular show, some of the actors are competing cheerleaders! (Note for our US friends, cheer is a sport that competes in their own right, though colleges have them too, but they're not in high schools) We heard about the journey from rehearsing on thick mats to thinner ones then no mats, just stage. The night we went starred Grace Collins as the main character, for the closing weekend having replace another with less than a days' notice! With a background as a vocal coach, she was amazing.
.
A high energy dance heavy show, a fish out of water, cheer vs hip hop, exploring ambition, community and blooming where you're planted. With music by Lin-Manuel Miranda it definitely has 'In the Heights' feels when it came to music.
.
Note - It's nothing like the movie, except both being about cheerleading, though we've only seen the first one (there's 4?!).
