ā€œA generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.ā€ -Proverbs‬ ‭11‬:‭25‬

Muchísima gracias @halconesrojosmx for a great season, what a roller coaster of emotions it has beenā—ļøEven though it was short lived, I hope we brought the energetic and passionate basketball back to the ABJ after 8 long years. To the fans here in Veracruz, especially Nación Roja, you are all crazy and I love it! I have met some great people, I played in some wild games and I genuinely enjoyed being here these past 4 months. Veracruz, you have a special place in my heart and I will never forget this city…

My heart hurts. There are no words to describe the horror of life being killed. Children. Adults. No less in a school. Beautiful faces beaming with joy. The ultimate gift of this profession is seeing your babies - loving on them, dancing with them, celebrating them.

I remember vividly on three separate occasions (as an educator on both the East and West coast) an active shooter outside of the school building. These years in particular I was teaching 4-6 year olds. Locking our doors, closing curtains, sitting in a corner, placing little ones in the cubbies. Each time I would text my husband and my parents. The children knew what to do. We had practiced this. It sickened me to think that we had to practice this and explain the why. That we have to embed social emotional/ mental health supports for this specific trauma.

Yesterday I was at a school visit. Saw sweet little feet scurrying to dismissal with oversized backpacks. Thinking one day those would be my little girls’ feet. Older kids celebrating the end of the year. Hugging one of my favorite humans who happens to also be one of the best educators. Leaving the school then to the news of Uvalde, TX. School shooting. Crying in the car. Not knowing what to do. Today I woke up feeling the same. Sadness, anger, more anger. Holding my daughters.

There is an intense feeling of helplessness. I know there are no words that will allow grief like this to pass. But always loving community, I hope you know that if you need to share, a hug, want to read a book about grief, or just be, we are here. This was my way of releasing ever so gently the tight grip on my heart right now. There’s a basket of books to read and each little plant represents one child and adult killed in Uvalde. However, the number of innocent lives we continue to have stolen from us due to gun violence is much larger. Not ā€œlostā€. Stolen. Grabbed. Taken.

You may be feeling BIG FEELINGS. Someone you know may be questioning and grieving. May we support each other through these too frequent heartbreaking days. May we teach our children to be kind, lean on, love, and find acceptance wholly for each other. May we as adults do the same.

THIS TOO SHALL PASS by Brittany Vinciguerra

@brittanyvinciguerra

It is natural for kids to be nervous, scared, sad, or lonely sometimes because of pressure to fit in this challenging world.

THIS TOO SHALL PASS is a beautiful book about hope, self-discovery, helps children cope with their different emotions, and gives them the confidence to handle every situation they face.Ā

This story follows a young biracial girl and her stuffed toy, Giraffe. Whenever she feels sad, lonely, or scared, she takes a deep breath, slows down her thoughts, and takes a break. She believes that God’s love is everywhere, so she appreciates all the things around her that she has with God’s blessings.Ā
It encourages children to seekĀ emotional healingĀ from God to deal with their feelings of sadness, helps children gain confidence to deal with everyday challenges, realize their true worth, and teaches them to be grateful for what they have.
