Spent the day hopping around some really good spots and had to share them here:

Breakfast cafe with really good pastries
📍Contour, PJ

The one noodle bar I can’t stop thinking about
📍Awesome Wang, PJ SS2
(Just next to TeoChew Meng)
That smoky dashi beef soup noodle will live rent free in my mind, so good it’s unreal!

Ended the day at
📍Listening Hifi Cafe, Chow Kit.
It’s a pretty quiet one since everyone’s on headphones, but I actually like that — it lets you pick up all the little details, like the backing vocals, the ad-libs, and even the soft vinyl crackle, weird but nice 😌

The food here was honestly AWESOME from start to finish

On the table
🍜Smoky Dashi Beef Noodle Soup
🥩Savory Minced Beef Noodles
🥒Zesty Cucumber w/ Roasted Peanut
🥂Dried Longan Gin
🍑White Peach Oolong Gin
🍸Genmaicha Gin

Not every hidden restaurant deserves to stay hidden… but this one might actually be too good to expose !!!

Tucked upstairs in SS2, this spot serves seriously addictive noodles packed with rich flavours that instantly hits the spot 😮‍💨

The minced beef noodles were super satisfying, the cucumber side dish balanced everything perfectly, and the gin cocktails honestly made the whole experience feel even better 🍸✨

Definitely one of those places you accidentally discover once and keep craving after that 👀

Late night drinks + some BBQ? This place is perfect for it. 🍻🍢

Found a really nice bar & grill spot at Awesome Wang (PJ SS2).

Originally wanted to order their grilled chicken thigh skewers, but they were sold out 🥲 (note to self: come earlier next time).
So we tried the grilled king oyster mushrooms instead and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise! 🍄✨ Lightly charred on the outside, juicy on the inside, with a subtle smoky aroma. The seasoning was just right — not too salty, and honestly quite addictive.

Besides skewers, they also have noodles and other mains, so the menu isn’t limited to BBQ. If you’re planning to drink, they also serve signature cocktails, which pair really well with the grilled food.

📞 Tip:
You can call to reserve a table and just let them know the date and time.
Weekends can get busy, so booking in advance is recommended.

Overall vibe:
✔ Relaxed atmosphere
✔ Tasty skewers
✔ Food + drinks available
✔ Great for hanging out with friends and casual drinks

If you’re around PJ SS2 and wondering what to eat at night, this spot is definitely worth adding to your list. 🍜🍢🍻

Friday night at Awesome Wang Noodle Bar 🍜

Tried the cold noodles, scallion oil noodles, honey lemon tea and a glass of Kirin 🍺

The cold noodles were quite nice for us - smooth and爽口, with that clean bite texture. We also got to try the hidden menu fried papaya salad with shrimp 🦐 Recommended by the guys at the bar counter, and apparently only five portions available per day.

We walked in and managed to get seats at the bar counter, but weekends and peak hours probably better to reserve first.

Overall a pretty nice Friday night spot. Good vibe, good food, somehow make us feel young again 😂✨

Ever since I tasted one of the best scallion oil noodles I ever had at Tor Day in Taichung during Taiwan Cocktail Camp, I’d been craving for something similar here.

That craving led me to The Awesome Wang (@theawesomewang) in SS2, PJ, a ‘noodle bar’ that specializes in house-made Teochew-inspired noodles, and also has a bar as well!

I went there on my own last month at around 3pm (it was a day before they changed their opening hours from 3pm to the current 5pm), and of course, ordered the SCALLION OIL NOODLES, tossed in their own homemade scallion oil, served with a choice of Black Angus Beef slices or Crispy Karaage Chicken, and finished with a marinated egg.

I went with the chicken, and it was pretty damn good (perfectly battered, fried just nice and not too dry).

As for the noodles, while it didn’t QUITE live up to my high Tor Day Bar, it was still good enough to satisfy my craving.

I also ordered two other sides - ZESTY CUCUMBER WITH ROASTED PEANUTS was… okay, punchy but a little one-dimensional; but the GRILLED OYSTER MUSHROOM skewer was fantastic.

Drinks-wise, they allow you to order cocktails based on your own taste preference… so I ordered a MARTINI using their house JACKFRUIT GIN.

The gin actually worked quite nicely in the martini with the vermouth, so I could ALMOST forgive the fact that it was shaken, not stirred. Ah well.

Anyway, at least I managed to find a decent scallion oil noodes around here. Whee!
