TICKET LINK IN BIO SHOT ON VIDEO HALLOWEEN SPECIAL! ONLY ON VHS! ONLY $5 THE REVIEWS ARE IN! "Get this: a demented man who wears a mask is murdering people. He wears his mask during the day because he's deformed. Now, someone gets killed so naturally the doctor's daughter has to have a party. But first she has to take a shower and show us some gratuitous nudity. More people are getting killed at Charlie's barn, but that isn't good enough for the sheriff so Charlie is let go. More people die... I even remember *serious* dialogue like 'there's a killer loose so I'm gonna walk home from your party Jamie.' ...I still can't look at the box cover without laughing hysterically." ---Thanks anonymous IMDB reviewer

Alipato at Muog (2024) Screenings 🗓️ 10/20 7:30 pm and 10/22 4:30 pm 🔗 tickets available via @thebeaconsea 🎥 ABOUT THE FILM: Farmer-activist Jonas Burgos, son of the late press freedom icon and anti-Marcos publisher Jose Burgos Jr., had just finished a training program on organic farming for members of the Philippine peasant organization Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) on April 28th 2007, when he was brazenly abducted in broad daylight from a crowded mall. Alipato at Muog (2024), or “Flying Embers and a Fortress”, combines animation and never-before-seen footage of the Burgos family’s relentless search, as filmmaker JL Burgos pieces the stories together to uncover the painful truths about his brother’s disappearance. 🌾 This documentary is a timely examination of the rights abuses that activists and organizers continue to face today in the Philippines under the Marcos Jr. administration, especially as KMP carries out a national month of action in the Philippines for landless farmers annually in October. Join Tanod Lupa at the Beacon for these screenings and discussion on how this relates to our community, as we carry out demands of Justice for the Negros 19 massacre and justice for the rights and welfare of peasant farmers throughout the Philippines.

DRILLER: (1984) Fri, Oct 23 at 10:00 PM @thebeaconsea Ticket link in profile. An X-rated horror musical inspired by Michael Jackson’s THRILLER, starring Taija Rae and a pop superstar named Mr. J. DRILLER could only have happened in 1984—and even then, somebody really had to want to make it. Adult-film veterans and lifelong horror fans Joyce James and Timothy Green Beckley wanted to make something different, and the enormous cultural impact of THRILLER gave them their way in. Taija Rae plays Louise, an obsessed fan whose fascination with Mr. J carries her from a pop concert into a handmade Gothic nightmare. What begins as an unmistakable riff on Jackson and John Landis gradually wanders deeper into horror-movie territory, with original songs, choreography, transformation effects and smoky monster-movie atmosphere assembled with the resources and ingenuity of an independent adult production. The distance between THRILLER’s Hollywood spectacle and DRILLER’s lovingly threadbare recreation is part of its charm, but James never treats the idea as a throwaway joke. She commits to it, building the parody into a strange little world with a personality entirely its own. More than forty years later, DRILLER remains a perfect artifact of its moment: Golden Age adult filmmaking colliding head-on with MTV, the early-’80s horror boom and the biggest music video on Earth. Rough, playful and wildly ambitious, it’s the work of filmmakers who wanted to make something unusual and followed that impulse much further than anyone could reasonably have asked. There is only one DRILLER.

What an absolutely lovely and inspiring night at @thestrangerseattle Genius Awards. In the past 28 years, I've watched so much of the creative ecosystem that allowed this place to be what it once was get dredged and drained by people who make nothing but money, are worth nothing but money, and have no interest in art or culture beyond something that can be monetized and smeared on the wreckage they leave in their wake as an empty signifier to attract more people with no real interest in the substance of it. Last night was a powerful reminder of those of us still here, still fighting, still supporting each other and still creating art, music, culture and just general unquantifiable weirdness. Thank you to @besslovejoy for taking me as her arm candy. Her piece on the Beacon for the Genius Awards would have made me want to know her, if I didn't already. Thank you to the Genius Awards committee for all the thought and hard work they put into this. Thank you to all the Awards winners and nominees who do so much to keep this place living and breathing and fascinating and worth loving and fighting for. And thank you to @tushtushtush for giving the absolutely perfect Awards acceptance performance from start to finish. 🫡 You all put a lot more joy and slightly more hope in this wilted little heart. ❤️
