One of my favorite restaurants just rolled out their fall/winter menu, so naturally I had to check it out. 🐋🔥

The Black Whale in New Bedford kept plenty of the staples, including my favorite tuna with crispy rice 🙌, but gave the menu a fresh, simplified layout that looks great.

Some interesting additions caught my eye, including caviar tater tots and a new steak & chop section where you pick your cut, then choose from four preparations with different sides and sauces. Plenty of seafood add-ons, too. 👀

This time, I started with the baked oysters with bacon, butter and Parmesan. I love me some baked oysters, and these did not disappoint.

For dinner, I went with a returning favorite: Chilean sea bass with forbidden rice, miso glaze and ginger slaw. Very happy to see that one back on the menu. 👏

Then came the new sticky toffee apple cake… that thing was GAS. 🔥 Definitely gave me some Gordon Ramsay sticky-toffee vibes. The new cherries and chocolate dessert is already on my list for next time.

In my opinion, the Whale is consistently one of the best spots around for seafood. With the volume they do, product is always moving, and that freshness shows. I’ve got a pretty keen nose for fresh seafood, and the Whale keeps delivering. 🐟⚓️

First up at South Coast Chowderfest, the Chowder Girl tried @theblackwhale. This one will be hard to beat, coming in at 8, no 9, no 9.5/10! Black Whale is an excellent restaurant on the New Bedford waterfront, and serves one of the best chowders on the South Coast! Special shoutout to @candela.cucina for the bread! #clamchowder #chowderreview @onesouthcoastchamber

“Flat Fish Is Back”… but at Captain Marden’s, it never left. 🐟

Flounder and other flatfish have been a staple of what we do for generations. Every week, our team is cutting and processing fresh flatfish for our retail market, wholesale customers, and restaurants throughout the area.

We’re proud to see Massachusetts Fisheries putting the spotlight back on these local favorites—and even prouder to keep doing what we’ve always done: sourcing, cutting, and selling great fish.

Flatfish isn’t making a comeback here. It’s always been part of Captain Marden’s.
