The 🌖 is an average distance of 238,855 miles from Earth.

Over the 2025 Season, our participating shipping lines traveled 481,273 nautical miles at whale-safer speeds.

✨481,273 🐋 safer nautical miles translates to 553,839 🐋 safer miles AND *more distance* than a 🚀trip to the #moon and back!

*Thank you* to our participating shipping lines for their leadership & efforts!

(And shout out to the crew and broader Artemis II team— wishing them a *safe return* home 🌎!)

So excited to share the 2025 Program *environmental benefits* results, and what all those whale-safer transits mean for clean air 🌎 & 🐋 !

Huge appreciation for our participating #shipping lines efforts across the season, and our research partners - @scripps_ocean, U of Washington, & Starcrest Consulting.

Link in bio / article out in Tradewinds & on our website to read more. A few highlights ⬇️:

▶️ 40% lower risk to whales;
▶️ 70% decrease in the underwater noise acoustic intensity, and
▶️ 1,490 tons of reduced smog-forming #emissions.

🐋 Dr. Anna Nisi - “…reducing vessel speeds remains a key way to reduce the probability that a collision *will occur in the first place*, by giving whales more time to avoid oncoming vessels.”

🔊 Dr. Vanessa ZoBell - “When ships are quieter, their #noisepollution footprint contracts. That means ship noise propagates over a smaller area of the ocean, reducing the number of animals exposed. Additionally, for any whales within a passing ships’ noise footprint, VSR reduces the sound pressure, which is a critical measure for biological exposure.”

🌫️ California’s onshore prevailing winds mean that emissions from oceangoing vessels often flow into communities, contributing to exceedances of air quality standards. 2025 Season efforts resulted in reductions of: 1,491 tons of NOx; 8.9 tons of DPM; 37 tons of SOx and 55,771 metric tons of regional greenhouse gases (CO2 equivalent).

*Thank you* to the mariners, operations and logistics teams, program ambassadors, researchers and supporters that make this impact possible!
