📝 The Conversations We Avoid: Why Communication Matters Most in the Relationships Closest to Us

As a parent coach, author, and educator, I know that some of our most important conversations are also the hardest ones to have.

Sometimes we avoid speaking up because we’re afraid of being misunderstood. Sometimes we choose silence to keep the peace. And sometimes, the words we write simply cannot convey what our hearts are trying to say.

But stronger relationships require communication, listening, vulnerability, and the courage to have the conversations we’d rather avoid.

I’m grateful to The BOSS Network for sharing my work and giving me another opportunity to encourage meaningful conversations in our families and relationships.

💬 Here’s a question for you: What’s one thing you wish people understood about you without you having to explain it?

What if the pressure you’ve been through is actually what’s making you shine? 🦪✨

That’s the question behind my new blog with The Boss Network @thebossnetwork , “Recognizing the Woman Behind the Work: What Every Woman Can Learn from a Pearl.”

I had the honor of being an award nominee at Regina Stevenson’s @iamreginapearl Pearls of Purpose Award Night, and what made the evening so meaningful was that it wasn’t just about the accolades, it was about the women behind the work.

As a community founder, I know what it means to build a business while simultaneously building yourself. At Bold and Becoming, we believe in focusing on the woman and the work because you can’t separate the success we see, from the process that shaped the woman who achieved it.

It was a beautiful night of women sharing their stories: what challenged them, what built them, what stretched them, and ultimately, what led them to the success they’re experiencing today. A reminder that our pursuit of purpose is often what makes us who we are.

I was also grateful to connect with incredible women across different industries and fields, to celebrate their accomplishments, share in their stories, and be celebrated alongside them in a room full of high-achieving women who are creating impact in their own way.

Because pearls don’t just happen. They’re formed through pressure, layered over time, and refined into something valuable.

And honestly? So are we. 🤍

A weekend that reminded me why investing in women matters.

Honored to join The BOSS Network, Veronica Beard, and PlayersTV during WNBA All-Star Weekend for conversations centered on leadership, opportunity, and the future of women’s sports.

Grateful to represent Bold & Becoming in rooms where purpose, partnership, and impact intersect. Here’s to building spaces where women are seen, supported, and empowered to win…on and off the court. 🏀✨

My first #WNBAAllStar Weekend experience was absolutely incredible.

On behalf of @thebossnetwork, I was blessed to be invited to a cocktail reception and invitation-only dinner hosted by @lisaleslie, @veronicamielebeard, and @iammicheleghee with @playerstv in partnership with @iamcameka and The BOSS Network.

The philanthropic evening featured a conversation on leadership and a surprise performance by @j_ivy. The vibes were just right. I made some refreshing new connections and reconnected with some amazing women that I hadn’t seen in quite a while.

Thank you to Dr. Cameka for selecting me as one of seven founders from The BOSS Network to be a part of this experience and to Michele and the team at PlayersTV for having me. And many thanks to the team at Veronica Beard for suiting me for the occasion!

Come to The PlayHer Experience with me 🎥🏀

While the world watched WNBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago, some of the most powerful women in sports, media, and business gathered inside the Veronica Beard boutique for an evening of Cocktails & Conversation — hosted by @veronicabeard x @playerstv, the first athlete-owned media network.

In one room: WNBA legend Lisa Leslie. A.J. Andrews, the first woman ever awarded a Rawlings Gold Glove. PlayersTV President @iammicheleghee. @iamcameka of @thebossnetwork. @dorindawalker. And co-founder @veronicamielebeard herself, reminding us why women who build tables — not just seats — change the game entirely.

The conversation? Ownership. Legacy. What happens when women stop waiting for permission. Press play for the full recap — and tell me in the comments which moment you would’ve loved to be in the room for. 👇🏽

10 Years. 10 Lessons. Lesson #4: Growth Requires a New Mindset.

When I left corporate America 10 years ago to start Yvette Gavin Consulting, I thought my leadership experience and passion made me fully prepared. It didn’t.

While experience is vital, I quickly learned that corporate leadership and entrepreneurship require very different mental frameworks:

* Corporate leadership often focuses on optimizing systems, navigating structure, and driving performance within an established organization.
* Entrepreneurship requires building from scratch, wearing every hat, and embracing extreme ambiguity.

To build an entrepreneurial future, I knew I had to actively evolve my thinking. Realizing I couldn’t do it in a vacuum, I intentionally surrounded myself with other business owners through incredible organizations like WEOP, The BOSS Network, Georgia Tech APEX Accelerator, GPI, and the Atlanta SBA.

They didn’t just offer networking—they became the catalyst for my mindset shift. They:

* Challenged my assumptions
* Expanded my vision
* Answered the questions I didn’t even know to ask
* Reminded me I wasn’t building alone.

The Takeaway: Whether you are leading a corporate team or scaling your own business, true growth happens when you continuously elevate your thinking. Reaching your next milestone starts with giving yourself permission to shift your perspective.

Lesson #4: Growth requires a new mindset.

WOW! @WNBA All-Star weekend 🏀 in Chicago is amazing! One of the events I went to was an exclusive cocktail reception hosted by the president of @Playerstv - @iammicheleghee, Basketball legend - @Lisaleslie, and @Veronicabeard (51 clothing stores…soon to come Paris opening).

We gathered with an inspiring group of men and women across sports, business, media, and fashion for an evening of meaningful conversation. The reception was designed to bring together women who are passionate about uplifting, empowering, and championing one another while celebrating the growing partnership between PlayersTV, Veronica Beard, and @thebossnetwork. Now that’s what you call 𝑮𝑰𝑹𝑳 𝑷𝑶𝑾𝑬𝑹!

It didn’t stop there! We were surprised with a performance by Grammy Award winners @Tarreytorae and @J_Ivy. 🎤 👏🏽👏🏽
