My go-to MMA hairstyle as a hairstylist 🥊 and it literally takes me less than 5 minutes to complete.

Is it perfect? No.
Is it effective? Y E S .

First, I lather a reasonable amount of leave-in conditioner through my DRY hair. I find applying it to dry hair helps my hair absorb it better and keeps it from running as much. I focus mostly on my mids and ends instead of loading it directly onto my scalp.

1) Split your hair into 2 sections.
Starting on one side, grab a small section at the top and divide it into two.
2) Take the section closest to your face and cross/twist it up, over & away from your face, bringing the top section underneath.
3) After that first twist, pick up a little hair from the bottom and add it to your bottom section, then grab a little from the top and add it to your top section.
4) Twist again and repeat : add from the bottom, add from the top, twist & work your way down toward the nape.
5) Repeat on the other side.

You can secure both sides into a ponytail at the nape if you want, but personally… I CANNOT stand hair sitting on the back of my neck while I train 😭 so everything goes into one messy bun.

What the back of my head looks like is not my business 😂 as long as my hair is out of my face, (and off of my neck) stays put through training, we’re good. The less time I spend fixing my hair between rounds, the more time I get to actually TRAIN.

If you’re new here, hi, I’m Nomie ✂️ I’m a hairstylist + MMA fighter currently 2-1. Both of my wins were first-round finishes before I took time away to have my baby. I recently came back, fought for a title, took my first loss in mma, and now I’m healing up from an injury and getting ready to come back stronger. 🥊

Hair is what helps me continue pouring into this crazy dream of mine, so if you need braids, cuts, curls, color, or anything in between.. KEEP YOUR GIRL BOOKED & BUSY 💌

Every appointment supports me being able to keep showing up for both of my passions.

Try this hairstyle for your next training sesh and lmk how you like it 👇💌

Would you trust a hairstylist with straight hair to give you a curly cut? 👀

Welllll… ask my clients 😂

Plot twist: I was actually BORN with curly hair. I had my mom’s beautiful curls growing up, but as I got older, my hair decided it wanted absolutely nothing to do with them and basically straightened itself out. 😭

But curls + textured hair have been part of my story for a LONG time.

I’ve been working with curly and textured hair since I was about 14 before curly hair, brush styling and having the social media moment and education it has today.

the first salon I EVER worked at was a textured hair salon. Shoutout to Stephanie + Adea at Suite 15 Hair for giving teenage me such a strong foundation. 💌 @suite15hair @thecurlspot

I was taught to finger coil, braid out, twist out, properly wash + detangle different textures, do takedowns, wig prep, crochet prep and so much more. I learned it HANDS ON, working with real hair and real textures.

I was in cosmetology school before they even started giving us curly mannequins. 😭

So don’t let the straight hair fool you. 😂 Working with curls and texture has been part of my craft since the very beginning, and I’m STILL learning, evolving and perfecting it because no two heads of curls are the same.

And now it’s come completely full circle because my daughter was born with curly hair. 🥹 I already can’t wait until she’s old enough to let me really get my hands in those curls.

So would you trust the straight-haired girl with your curly cut?

Ask my clients. 😉➰

Hi, I’m Nomie ♡

If you’re new here, consider this my official introduction 💌
and if you’ve been here for a while, you probably already know I have a hard time doing just one thing 😂

Hair has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up around the salon + barbershop, and somehow that turned into 10+ years behind the chair (6 professionally) doing what I genuinely love.

I’m a versatile hairstylist, which basically means I refuse to choose just one thing 😂 Braids, cuts, curls, color & everything in between. I love working with different textures, different styles and making every person who sits in my chair feel like themselves.

But there’s a lot more to me than hair.

I’m a mama ♡ and when I’m not at the salon, you can usually find me at the gym training for my next MMA fight and chasing my dream of making it to the UFC. 🥊

So that’s a little piece of me … your new hairstylist. ♡

Come find me behind the chair at @thevelvetpalmstudio ✂️
