A Little Carytown Dinner and Stroll! @carytownrva

After our massive hike through the James River Park System yesterday afternoon, we traded river trails and rocky terrain for a little urban exploring and dinner along West Cary Street in Richmond’s Carytown!

Known as Richmond’s “Mile of Style,” Carytown is a walkable shopping and dining district packed with locally owned boutiques, bookstores, restaurants, coffee shops, and plenty of quirky finds. It’s the kind of place where you can wander without a plan and still discover something interesting or unexpected around every corner.

Carytown’s shopping history goes back to 1938, when the Cary Street Park and Shop Center opened as Richmond’s first shopping center. The idea of parking and visiting multiple stores in one spot was pretty innovative for its time!

One featured landmark: The Byrd Theatre! @thebyrdrva Opened on Christmas Eve in 1928, this historic movie palace is one of Richmond’s most treasured landmarks. Named for William Byrd II, one of Richmond’s founders, the theater has operated almost continuously for nearly a century! Inside, I hear that you’ll find ornate decorations, a grand chandelier, and the famous Mighty Wurlitzer organ, which originally accompanied silent films and still plays for audiences today. I’ve actually never been to a show at the Byrd, something I hope to change this winter!

After miles of river views, Civil War history, bridges, boulders, and trails, this little stroll was a reminder that exploring Richmond doesn’t always require hiking boots (even though I was still wearing mine!)

🍂 Fall is the locals’ favorite season, and our agents know exactly where to spend it.

We asked Long & Foster agents across our markets how they’d spend a perfect fall weekend in their own towns. Swipe through for their picks 👉

📍 Richmond, VA: A “city of neighborhoods,” says @margaretwaderealtor. Start at the St. Stephen’s farmers market, browse Carytown, catch a show at the historic Byrd Theatre, and save Sunday for the fall color at Maymont.

📍 Chincoteague, VA: @fortheloveofchincoteague calls fall “the locals’ summer.” Kayak with the wild ponies, explore the National Wildlife Refuge, and end the day with ice cream from Island Creamery.

📍 New Hope, PA: “It’s a great walking town,” says @krisshieldsrealtor. Ride the New Hope Railroad’s Fall Foliage Excursion, walk the Delaware Canal towpath, and cross the bridge into Lambertville.

These are places worth visiting this fall and worth calling home all year long. 🏡

I went to see The Haunting at @thebyrdrva. During the month of October for years the zombie version of “Litter in the Ailes” that the Brandcenter made would play before the movie, but this time it didn’t. Does anyone know why?

Hold nothing back.

The heart’s a deep well.

And when it’s empty, it will fill again.”
