Stepping into the intimate pub, bound with nostalgia, The Caledonian holds a feeling that sits deep within my heart. An annual event that brings the same group of friends and unwavering tradition, sitting down and ordering a pint means more than simply drinking. However, the main focus of the event is the Haggis. Scotland’s iconic comfort dish packs loosely ground meat and a deeply savory aroma. The fatty, unctuous bite of intestines is balanced by peppery spice and a mild gamey undertone and bulked out with oats. The accompanying mashed turnips and potatoes are generously enriched with butter, with sparse chunks of tender spuds to bring a slight textural nuance. Crispy roasted parsnips on top bring a welcome crunch and nutty sweetness, and it is finished with a drizzle of onion gravy for additional savory depth. A hot toddy was a whim spurred by seemingly silly banter, but its strong medicinal qualities – whiskey, honey, lemon juice, and hot water – were not the checkup I wanted.

If you are in the Pacific Grove / Monterey Area, check this spot out! This is my YELP review! @thecaledonian

What an incredible experience! We had the Wagyu cheeseburger, Wagyu steak, and french fries—everything was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly, the burger was outstanding, and the fries were made exactly right.
The service was exceptional. I also had the pleasure of meeting the general manager, who was lovely, outgoing, and truly understands hospitality. Coming from the hospitality business myself, I genuinely appreciated the entire experience.
The ambience is wickedly sexy—classy, romantic, and perfect for date night, fine dining, or simply( keeping it in single mode) hanging out at the bar area.

And during Monterey Car Week, the atmosphere is even more exciting.
You’ll see fantastic people and some incredible, sexy cars. If you want more than just dinner, if you want an experience, The Caledonian is the place to go.

Another great night at the @thecaledonian for Drunk Fiction! This time, it was the Drunk Fiction Extravaganza!—readings, panels, and speed dating with industry professionals.

Thank you to Hollay Ghadery, Marc Côté, Randall Perry, and Chris Houghton for your time, insight, wisdom, and for sharing your experience with me during our round of “speed dating.” Sorry the clock ran out before I got the chance to talk with Heather Wood!

Thank you as well to all the panellists and readers. Their names are listed on the card in the first photo, with the exception of Diane Bracuk, who was added later. I’ll be tagging in everyone whose page I have, so that you can check out their work and give them a follow!

A HUGE special thanks to Emily Weedon for hosting and organizing this brilliant event for Canadian literature. I’m not sure where rounding up Canadian authors and industry professionals ranks compared to herding cats, but I reckon coaxing them out of hiding is the trickiest part—and a whisky bar was a great way to do it! My deepest thanks for your time, effort, ideas, and charisma!

PS. It was also great seeing and getting to catch up with Andrew Binks @binkswriter. Prince Edward County represent!
