Video Performance Art Reimagines the Future

In this episode, we explore an emerging microgenre in contemporary performance art. Some of today’s artists create liminal spaces, construct original expressive forms, and make powerful statements in a range of inventive video performances.
The 2025 exhibition (Im)Posibilidades: Performance Art for Video at Ogden Contemporary Arts in Ogden, Utah, reveals the microgenre’s potential. Featured projects from the United States and Mexico envision ways to correct historical distortions and construct new possible futures. They show us a world where everyone’s stories can thrive through performance and reimagination.

RO / Reflectând Zemstvei / Episodul 2

Episodul 2 al podcastul „Reflectând Zemstvei” relatează despre Pădurea Fermecată - un atelier desfășurat în Atelierul de Artă de la Casa Zemstvei și condus de Iulia Pînzari. Inițiat odată cu declanșarea războiului la scară largă în Ucraina, atelierul a fost creat pentru a sprijini copiii din familiile refugiaților prin artă și expresie creativă. În cadrul activităților, copiii explorează lumea simțurilor, emoțiilor și imaginației. În ziua înregistrării, cei mici experimentau cu uleiuri esențiale, creând parfumurile lor unice. De-a lungul timpului, atelierul a devenit un spațiu primitor pentru toți copiii, indiferent de proveniența lor.

Inspirat de atmosfera Pădurii Fermecate, Alex Hanganu (@alex.hang.out) a decis să dedice un episod acestui atelier, pe care ascultându-l, veți simți căldura spațiului și veți auzi vocile din spatele acestei inițiative, care aduce alinare, confort, bucurie și sens prin experiențe artistice, dedicate celor mai vulnerabili.

RO / Reflectând Zemstvei / Episodul 1

🎧 În urma eforturilor comune ale participanților Atelierului de Jurnalism Cultural, au fost produse 5 episoade pentru podcastul „Reflectând Zemstvei”. Suntem bucuroși să vă anunțăm că primul episod, ”Cum Noi Am Realizat Podcastul”, a fost publicat pe Youtube!

🔊 Vă invităm să-l audiați pentru a afla direct de la facilitatoarea atelierului, Cathy Byrd, despre procesul intens de producere a podcastului, care s-a desfășurat pe parcursul a trei zile în Casa Zemstvei.
Veți cunoaște cei 5 producători care au învățat să stăpânească echipamentele de înregistrare, să scrie scenarii și să colecteze sunete și voci, pentru a modela narațiuni care iluminează scena artistică independentă a orașului.

Din 2013, artiști și inițiative independente au închiriat spații într-o clădire cunoscută sub numele de „Casa Zemstvei”, un monument arhitectural deținut de stat, construit la mijlocul secolului al XIX-lea în inima Chișinăului. Creatori și curatori, animatori și activiști, oaspeți și vizitatori fideli îmbrățișează arhitectura dărăpănată, frigul arctic, acustica ecoului și grandoarea primitivă a acestui spațiu istoric. Înregistrate la fața locului, episoadele din acest program audio în ediție limitată sunt încorporate în peisajul sonor și caracterele creative care populează această „Casa Minunilor” a orașului.

✨ We invite you on Saturday, on 31th of May 2025, starting with 6 pm, in the coworking space of Casa Zemstvei, where the listening party of the "Reflecting Zemstvei" audio podcast series will take place.

📻 Through a joint effort of diligent teamwork, 5 episodes about cultural initiatives active in the Casa Zemstvei were recorded, comprising interviews with independent cultural sector workers and actors of the local art scene:
⚊ How we made the podcast - an introduction to the format and aims of the workshop, with an original emphasis on Zemstvei space;
⚊ Enchanted Forest - a creative activity for children from Moldova and Ukraine facilitated by Iulia Pînzari;
⚊ Peace Street - an initiative of curator Tatiana Fiodorova (@tfiodorova_lefter) and sociologist Vitalie Sprînceană (@vtlspr), which materialised in an installation in the Corridor of Zemstvei and a round table. Themes such as the reality of war and the role of art in promoting peace were also explored with the Ukrainian artist KAR (@kar.karkarkarkar)and documentary photographer Mihail Calarasan (@kalarashan);
⚊ Cenacle people - an exhibition by Sandu Harabagiu;
⚊ Bioskop (@klub_bioskop) - a film club at Casa Zemstvei.

Here I am, in Chișinău. Diving into Moldovan language and culture. Becoming one with my fab, fleeting family of five. 💙💙💙💙💙 Learning what it means to be a Peace Corps volunteer in the 21st century. 🍆🍎🍊🥔🥕🍅🍄‍🟫🫐🫚🍐We drink in the vivid hues of the city’s homegrown market. We settle into our abodes. 🏙️ We walk. We wander. We ponder. We speak Romanian with halting and hilarious aplomb. We take turns sleeping through the night. All feel the power of this moment. 🌱
