Join us as we welcome Dr. Raj Chetty to Chicago for a timely conversation that shares data and insights from the recent Opportunity Insights report, “Creating High-Opportunity Neighborhoods: Evidence from the HOPE VI Program.” Released earlier this year, the report examines the long-term impact of replacing large public housing developments with mixed-income communities, a federal program known as HOPE VI. During the event, Chetty will share findings, and will be joined by Marisa Novara and Salin Geevarghese for a conversation about the pitfalls and possibilities of mixed income communities, the redress of racial and economic segregation, and the future of housing justice. 📈 Raj Chetty in Conversation On Economic Mobility and Housing Justice Monday, October 26, 2026 5:30–7 pm Student Center East, Illinois Room University of Illinois Chicago 750 S. Halsted Street FREE. Register at link in bio. The program is presented by the National Public Housing Museum in collaboration with the Chicago Community Trust and the John D. and Catherine T. South Side Sanctuary is proud to be part of @openhousechicago 2026, presented by the @chiarchitecture , joining more than 200 extraordinary sites across 30+ neighborhoods celebrating the architecture, culture, and communities that shape our city. For us, architecture is the most powerful intervention in the built environment for our community means creating a safe space. A sanctuary. A place where people can gather, heal, create, connect, and belong. At 47th & King, South Side Sanctuary is part of a larger movement advancing public health, urban vibrancy, adaptive reuse, and equitable transit oriented development on the South Side of Chicago. We believe thoughtful design can strengthen neighborhoods, activate underutilized spaces, support local economies, and create places that contribute to collective well being. A huge shoutout to our incredible partners in crime, @futurefirm (architecture) and @span_studio (branding & Design) , for helping bring this vision to life. We couldn’t ask for better creative collaborators! COME VISIT US! We’re welcoming guests from 10 AM to 5 PM with building tours, FREE sweetest day flowers and opportunities to meet our amazing student interns and OHC Chicago volunteers. And who knows what surprises we’ll have tomorrow! While you’re here, follow South Side Sanctuary to stay connected to everything we’re building, including music in the park, farmers markets, yoga, movement and exercise, healing ceremonies, community gatherings, and an exciting calendar of programming in 2027. And this is only the beginning. We have so many more projects taking shape across the South Side. Come experience the space, meet the people, and see what’s possible when architecture serves community. Open House Chicago is happening NOW! Explore South Side Sanctuary and more than 200 participating sites throughout the city. Visit the Open House Chicago website for details.

Happy Zhou Brothers Day Oct 16th 2026 Celebrating the extraordinary artistic vision of the Zhou Brothers, whose art and creativity helped transform an old warehouse into the Zhou B Art Center—an artist’s playground where creativity, collaboration, and community flourished. Through their vision, the Center helped nurture the 3rd Friday art movement, contributing to Bridgeport’s growth as one of Chicago’s most vibrant and diverse artistic communities. Enjoyed celebrating their artistic legacy, their impact on the community, and the power of art to bring people together across cultures.
