Kino has been named a Community’s Pick Finalist in the 2026 BREW Poetry Award and recognised with the BREW Honouree badge. That distinction feels especially tender to me because Kino began as something private, written for someone profoundly dear to my life, long before I imagined other eyes might ever rest upon it. There is something quietly astonishing in watching a poem born from one particular gaze become worthy of many. My sincere gratitude to The Chrysalis BREW Project for receiving Kino so thoughtfully and for allowing something deeply personal to find a life beyond the page. @thechrysalisbrewproject

O meu poema “Kino” nasceu de alguém, antes de nascer de uma ideia. É-me íntimo.

Agradeço a Deus pelas mãos e ouvidos atentos à minha jornada literária. Ele viu tudo, Ele sabe de tudo. Ele estava lá. E agradeço a todos que colocaram os olhos em Kino. Vocês também são parte disso!!

I’m having a record year… Spirit of the Cowboy not only received a remarkable review from @onetribune but has also become a recipient of the Voyages of Verses Book Award! I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported and seen both me as a writer and this particular poetry collection so far. I can’t wait for y’all to experience everything that comes after.😌✨

Excerpt from the review:
“Imagine being told all your life that masculinity looks a certain way, only to realize that version was a costume stitched together by generations. This book is what happens when someone tears the costume apart and weaves something new from the scraps. That weaving is not seamless, but that’s the beauty of it—threads fray, knots show, and the fabric breathes.”

About the award:
“This book is a winner of the Voyages of Verses Book Award, a recognition for books that expand the horizon of what literature can achieve. We honor works that challenge preconceived notions, broaden worldviews, and celebrate the rich blend of voices that shape our global narrative. Whether it’s a novel that immerses you in a different culture, a collection of poems that captures the essence of shared humanity, or a nonfiction account that sparks critical thought, the Voyages of Verses Book Award celebrates stories that invite exploration and discovery. “

#BEWILDERNESS : Poems

winner : https://thechrysalisbrewproject.com/2025/09/23/announcing-the-winners-of-the-brew-poetry-award-2025/

"forest fire"

in the centre
of his world he
stood burning.

‘in the jungle,’ she said,
‘only the rhinoceros
runs towards
a fire to stamp it out.’

and she lowered
her horn
to charge him.

"These poems bear resonant witness to the age in which they are written – an age governed by the call of the siren and the insistence of the curfew, the militarization of civil life and the degradation of rivers and mountains. Bewilderness captivates us with its vividly palpable images, its exhilarating shifts of tempo, and its plangent, deeply moving tonality."
