The World’s Greatest Psychic… had a terrible secret.
James Hydrick arrived in Utah in 1980 claiming to have telekinetic powers. His rise, and fall, are one of the storylines in season 4 of @thecoldpodcast. With thanks to @ksl_brightside and apologies to @andrewadamsksl.

A former police officer for the now-defunct city of East Layton has emerged as a focus of an investigation into the 51-year-old disappearance of a gas station attendant.

Thomas Richard Jackson, 78, served as an East Layton police officer from April 1975 to July 1976. During that time, Nancy Perry Baird disappeared from a Fina gas station along U.S. 89 on July 4, 1975. In recent years, cold-case investigators with the Davis County Sheriff's Office have said Jackson may have been involved in her disappearance.

That suspicion led detectives to excavate the backyard of a home where Jackson lived in 1975 in search of Baird's remains. The dig, which had not previously been reported, took place in May 2025.

For years, Baird's disappearance was attributed to serial killer Ted Bundy. However, Bundy denied any involvement before his execution. KSL's COLD podcast has also reported that Bundy had an alibi and was with a girlfriend about 100 miles from East Layton on the day Baird was last seen.

We are incredibly grateful to Dave Cawley and KSL for sharing the story behind Missing and UNsolved Day and helping bring greater awareness to the families who are still searching for answers.

We invite you to take a few minutes to read Dave’s article and listen to the latest episode of COLD. Both help tell the story of why connecting families with the right resources, experts, and support matters so much.

And please share this with someone who may benefit from attending Missing and UNsolved Day on September 26. You never know who in your community is searching for a missing loved one, answers in an unidentified case, or a breakthrough in an unsolved cold case.

Thank you Dave Cawley, KSL, the Cold Podcast, and all those reading and sharing for helping us shine a light on these families and the importance of never giving up.

True crime can educate, inspire action, and help keep cases in the public eye—but the way these stories are told makes all the difference.

The podcasts we appreciate most never lose sight of the people behind the case. They honor victims, treat families with respect, and focus on the search for answers.

Have a favorite podcast that gets it right? Share it in the comments! We'd love to hear your recommendations and what you think makes true crime storytelling respectful.
