Wat een man was dat. Nog steeds actief in het veld als fotograaf en verslaggever met de befaamde pager in zijn colbertjaszakje. Geweldige man!  Haagse Media Makers zijn belangrijk.  Lekkâh Haags 💛💚 #lokalemedia #denhaag

When Nicolás Maduro was captured by the US government, I decided to close a chapter. Vigipirate Quadcopter Drone: The Artist is in Danger! was years of research in tactical media: how an archive survives seizure, how data escapes when the body cannot. VQD began in 2014 as a working system for a refugee: an encrypted archive, a data crawler, a drone built to carry data out when a body can’t, and an SMS trigger protocol to let the drone fly and hide. Maduro is gone, but the regime that made VQD necessary is still in power. So I made a different kind of decision: close the operational chapter and turn twelve years of tactical media research into something transmissible. A cookbook. Recipes for archives that cannot be seized. I first tested this shift in May, at the Subversive, Investigative & Open Source Practices training school at the University of Galway @cctunigalway , inside COST Action Toolkit of Care (thank you Paul O’Neill, Rose Butler, Anthea Caddy, Yiannis Colakides, NeMe ). I didn’t know that a month later, on June 24th, Venezuela would break again, this time from below the ground. Today I can share that Vigipirate Quadcopter Drone is one of 18 projects selected for The Contrapuntal’s Post-Panoptics Grant 2026, from nearly 320 submissions worldwide. Supported by het Cultuurfonds. @thecontrapuntal If you reached this point, let me remind you that Venezuela is still grieving its dead after the earthquakes. Donations and help are still needed, and the regime still holds power, useless to its own people. https://thecontrapuntal.com/the-post-panoptics-grant-2026-recipients/

@hazaranbaluch and I report for @thecontrapuntal. On June 22nd Pakistan sentenced Baloch human rights defenders Dr Mahrang Baloch, who has reportedly been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for a second consecutive year, and Sibghatullah Shah G to life imprisonment, alleging the BYC leaders incited a mob that lead to the death of a paramilitary soldier during a protest in Gwadar in July 2029, in continuation of its attack on peaceful resistance in the province over rights, against enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. For the first time in decades @sammideenbaluch, daughter of Dr Deen Muhammad Baloch, who was abducted from Ornach, Khuzdar, on 28 June 2009, will not be protesting on the anniversary of her father’s disappearance. Sammi has repeatedly been subjected to various tactics of intimidation from arrests, abduction, abduction of her family members, security forces frequenting her home and following her—all to silence her. Despite the documented crackdown on the rights group and its leaders and the drinking activism space on the ground, BYC continues to mobilize. Sudan is often called a “forgotten war,” but what if the problem lies in how it is told, not just that it is ignored? For The Contrapuntal (@thecontrapuntal), I spoke with author, screenwriter, and creator of eyesonsudan.net, Yassmin Abdel-Magied (@yassmin_a ), about how narratives shape global attention and why that matters. I hope to expand this conversation and feature it in upcoming issues of Historyless, where we invite readers to question how we imagine and understand conflict. Thank you to Haris Zargar and the The Contrapuntal team!

Perhaps when the war ends on the land, another Mahjan’s womb will be spared, allowed to belong to life, and Feroz will return home as a teacher. Maybe when the war ends on the land, another Mahjan’s eyes will keep their light, and she will think of stitching beautiful embroidery for her son’s bride. Maybe. Maybe. To all the grief we carry. To all the grief we bury. For complete reportage: link 🔗 insta story. Via @thecontrapuntal #balochistan #story #writing
