Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire & Berkshire Cycle Tech crew 👋
A brilliant meet-up today at Woburn Sands Trail Park — coffee, shop talk, and a good ride to finish it off.

Always good to connect, share knowledge, and keep the wheels turning together.

Two days, one S-Works Carbon HT 26" and the end result is this gleaming proof that #26aintdead, took it for a test ride, okay not as pin sharp as modern generation bikes but still immense fun with a BIG F.

I should know, its my old xc bike 😃

So, a full strip down, cleaned with mucoff products and the shine brought back with Meguiars restorer, polish and wax. Then a ful fork service, new Bottom Bracket, new inner cables, new brake pads and bleed, tags n props below for Uberbike, Total Bleed Solutions and The Cycle Division for all the parts kits for bleeding and sundries.

Back to its owner on Friday.

The most important substance in the workshop is grease. We use it on every thread and bearing of the bikes we build. Not only do they run smoothly, when the time comes to take them apart for maintenance it’s easy as parts won’t be rusted and stuck. We’ve struggled with plenty of bikes which have been assembled dry and cursed the “mechanics” who failed to take a moment to apply a simple drop of grease.
We use this red grease from Finesse, sold by The Cycle Division. It’s denser than some greases and does the job well. We buy 2.5kg tubs and decant it into small grease guns. A tub this size lasts about a year so it’s not one of our biggest expenses.
This is not the only kind of grease we have, There’s also carbon assembly paste, Sturmey Archer hub grease, Shimano hub grease, Shimano roller brake grease and some other kind of grease in the back of the lubricant cupboard.
We don’t grease the tapers of cotterless bottom brackets, that leads to disaster.

We headed over to Huddersfield today for The Cycle Division’s open day and it didn’t disappoint!

Two friends, Martin and Chris, started the business 23 years ago from a garage, and today they’ve grown into four units supplying bike parts to workshops all over the UK including freelance bike mechanics!

We even got to tour the workshop and saw their wheel-building machines in action building wheels in seconds! Big thanks to the amazing team for having us and sharing their story 😄
