Last year, DePaul took a step in the right direction. Chris Holtmann is slowly building this program out of the ground.

Layden Blocker is a very solid returner to have. He is quick and athletic to beat the POA defender. Kahmare Holmes will be a great scorer to have in the starting lineup. He can score from just about anywhere and also attacks the glass very well for his size. Ade Popoola is the much needed 3&D piece for the Blue Demons. He will act as the glue and I really like this addition.

Holtmann has a giant frontcourt that could be utilized in many different ways. Magoon Gwath was a stellar get for the 5 though. He is an excellent defender who will provide valuable rim protection. I’m leaning Koree Cotton at the 4. He’s a good two way option that should fit in well on the perimeter with the catch-and-shoot 3. This starting frontcourt does have some potential and Holtmann is making sure shooting won’t be a problem again.

Wilson Jacques was a good pickup to bring size and physicality to the frontcourt. He was a double-double threat every night, even racking up 19 boards one game. Theo Pierre-Justin is another giant who has more perimeter ability. Teams could have an issue scoring in the paint on the Blue Demons. Kruz McClure is better than his numbers suggest and could be a real bench scorer for DePaul. He’s a breakout candidate for sure. Noah Meeusen is still getting better and should be a solid ball handler behind Blocker. Amsal Delalic is a wing depth piece that will get minutes.

DePaul lost a few big pieces from a very solid team. Chris Holtmann did a good job in the portal of addressing his needs, especially shooting. The talent is likely better than last season. A few breakouts and DePaul could be right in the middle of the pack in the Big East once again, maybe even square on the bubble.

We all know Gunn can score. But the game against Creighton was different.

Even on a 3-of-8 night, he impacted the game everywhere — 6 assists (career high), 5 rebounds, big plays down the stretch, and the kind of balance DePaul needed to close it out.

Sometimes your most complete game isn’t your highest-scoring one.

Kaleb Banks is becoming a real difference-maker for DePaul.

Getting to the rim, drawing fouls, making plays on both ends — he’s taken 20% of the team’s free throws over the last two games and is earning more run because of it.

The more he’s on the floor, the more he impacts the game.

This Saturday Seton Hall (14-5 (4-4)) face DePaul (11-8 (3-5)) in a pivotal Big East clash.

Seton Hall is coming off of a 65-60 loss to St. John's. The Pirates had a great first half against the Red Storm, and a terrible second half. The offensive struggles in conference play continued in the second half of the game as the Pirates were unable to generate any offense.

The Blue Demons are a much improved squad, and are looking to bounce back from an 87-80 loss on the road to Butler.

Blue Demons😈Player to 👀: Layden Blocker

The 6' 2 Junior Guard is averaging 12.0 ppg|2.6rpg|3.8apg. The former 4 ⭐️ recruit, who is noted for his athleticism and scoring ability, is a player the Pirates need to contain if they want to leave Chicago with a win.

Strong offensive showing, but DePaul’s defense raises concerns. Coach Holtman wasn’t happy after the game.
