Moodboard → Brand Identity One of my favourite parts of the branding process is seeing how a collection of references, colours, textures and little ideas slowly turns into something of its own. For The Coffee Hatch, I started with a mood that felt warm, local, slightly quirky and a little mysterious — and then tried to translate that feeling into the actual brand. Some things stayed almost exactly as I imagined them, while others changed completely once I started designing. And honestly, that's the fun part. A moodboard is a starting point, not a rulebook. Here’s a little look at the moodboard vs. the final brand. ☕️🐔 The Coffee Hatch , Good coffee. Curious people. A chicken for a coffee brand? Yeah, I know. The chicken was probably the most unexpected part of this project. Instead of choosing something directly related to coffee, I wanted to go in the completely opposite direction. I wanted the brand to have a character that people could remember — something that didn't necessarily make sense with coffee, but made the brand feel more human, playful and distinctive. So the chicken became the little barista behind the hatch. She carries the coffee beans, makes the coffee, serves the cups, takes breaks, gets curious, gets confused… basically, she runs the place. I did want to keep the character feeling a little more illustrative and less cartoonish, and I think she ended up being more cartoon-like than I originally imagined. But I still really like where she landed. There's definitely room to keep developing her, but for now, I'm pretty happy with my little chicken. 🐔 The Coffee Hatch — Good coffee. The Coffee Hatch ☕️🐔 A little hole-in-the-wall coffee shop with good coffee, curious people, and a chicken who somehow ended up becoming the face of the brand. For this project, I wanted to explore something a little different from the usual coffee branding. The hatch/window became the main visual element, and the chicken mascot slowly became the personality of the whole brand. I really enjoyed working on this one and honestly, I think the chicken is my favourite part of the identity. It wasn't something I originally expected to do for a coffee brand, but once I started exploring it, it just felt right. Really happy with how this one came together. Good coffee. "Auribus Teneo Lupum" an old Latin phrase which says - I hold the wolf by the ears. Almost took me half of the sunday to turn it out like this from a mere sketch but I love it.
