If you’re a business owner think about ways you can create content to increase visibility, build trust & community.

The relationships and cash will fill if you do it correct & consistent.

How can you add value to the communities you serve? A social show is one way to use entertainment to serve your community.

Build an anecdote library over time you’ll have a rich collection of experiences anecdotes to pull and you’ll find yourself connecting dots that would seem random to everybody else. That’s how you distinguish yourself from the crowd.

Purpose drives community and culture.

Writing your mission and vision and framing on a wall or putting it in a student handbook means nothing if you’re not living it out on a daily basis.

It can’t be conditional based on who’s on that day or how you feel.

When you’re clear on why you’re doing what you do you show up because you know people are counting on you.

When people know they can count on you they go out of their way to come to your establishment, they tell their friends.

When building a community think outside the box. Amazon sells bike parts and a bunch of stuff but they can’t build community.

What @thedevilsgear has created over the years is an organic community around a shared experience and interest.

Community is one of the latest buzz words, a few months ago it was authentic, go back a few years it was pivot. Everyone screaming community is not about that life it sounds good.

Some people don’t even like people, you see them in public spaces and their online persona is not congruent with the person you’re having a conversation with.

Walking into @thedevilsgear you could feel the energy in the air, during the conversation with team, how they interact with each other and the customers.

@msoutlaw covered an art show at the @serendipitylabs.westport a little over a year ago, we had no clue who the artist was it was about showing up because we thought the idea was cool and wanted to highlight the artist and the lab.

Having a mentor can change the trajectory of your life. @napperoots mentor influenced his career choice.

Steve Roberts is a skateboarding advocate and chef who uses his passions to foster social connections and create opportunities for young people.

A New Haven native, he discovered skateboarding at 13 and later earned a bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations from Rhode Island College. His early career in Providence, RI, combined grassroots organizing with culinary exploration, as he worked in local kitchens while engaging in community initiatives.

Returning to New Haven in 2016, Steve continued working in some of the city’s top restaurants. In 2017, he founded the Push to Start Skate Program, an initiative that leverages skateboarding to build community, inspire civic engagement, and create opportunities for local youth. What began in the parking lot behind Stetson Library has since expanded to Scantlebury Skatepark, a project Steve helped bring to life, alongside fellow New Haven resident J. Joseph through their ongoing Skate Haven initiative.

Steve is committed to advocating for skateboarders in New Haven’s urban planning efforts, ensuring they have a voice in shaping public spaces. Through his work, he continues to use skateboarding as a tool for social change, community building, and creative expression.

Road trip to New Haven to get a copy of our magazine printed at Tyco Printing afterwards I stopped by @thedevilsgear to get my handle bars retapped.

Cycles and conversations. You don’t have to wait for permission or validation in order to create a safe space for people.

Race Report: 12/45 🗒️✅

Another awesome Tuesday night race at the rent thanks to the @the_ccap. What a great way to close out a series! These races have given me an opportunity to work on some key strengths and weaknesses.

I spent a ton of time in the beginning of the race, covering or holding things together - that was my first mistake, but not my biggest.

My biggest mistake was taking the pedal off the gas as we rounded 1 lap to go. The pace slowed, I got comfortable and it was in that moment my race was sealed.

I was COOKED and lost focus. We got swarmed so the only thing I could do was move up and fight for a good position. I’m not sure why I thought it was a good time to reserve energy with such a large field. OTHER THAN THAT, I’m thrilled with this result and I’m glad I’ve learned a valuable lesson.

Racing requires so much focus, from the reaction of the bike to making split second decisions that can win you or cost you the race.

Over these last 5 races I’ve learned so much about what it takes to really race. It almost feels like in my first two seasons I was just racing with my head in the clouds.

Huge shoutout to @turbo_donkey33 - he’s helped me not only with general coaching but helping me think more effectively on the bike in different situations. It’s great to have new ways of approaching this sport mentally and physically.

Excited for the next one!
