The Marathon Mentality: OG Yaya on Building a Legacy in Hip-Hop

In a candid interview, industry veteran OG Yaya offers a masterclass on longevity in a genre that often prioritizes the new over the legendary. He points out a stark contrast while legacy acts in rock and country are celebrated like fine wine, hip-hop has a history of pushing its pioneers to the side. Yaya’s philosophy is clear a successful career is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s a journey built on the foundation of timeless music that forges a deep, lasting connection with a loyal fanbase, allowing artists to thrive for decades.

This perspective from OG Yaya forces us to ask some tough questions. Is hip-hop culture finally ready to embrace its elders and give them the same respect as other genres? Yaya suggests that while social media has changed the game, the core principles of quality and connection are what truly create a legacy. What are your thoughts on the “fine wine” treatment for legacy artists, and does hip-hop need more of it?

A Hidden Goldmine of Talent: Is the Kentucky Music Scene on the Verge of an Explosion?

In a revealing conversation, industry veteran OG Yaya dives into the heart of the Kentucky music scene, a place he describes as overflowing with untapped potential. He speaks with passion about the rappers, singers, and country artists from across the state who are not just talented, but are already achieving significant milestones, like signing major record deals and amassing huge online followings. However, Yaya raises a crucial question. If the talent is undeniable, why isn’t the local infrastructure keeping pace? He shares his frustration with a system where DJs and radio programmers seem hesitant to champion their homegrown artists, a stark contrast to his experiences helping to build careers in the famously supportive Atlanta ecosystem.

This isn’t just a story about one state. It’s a conversation about the very nature of artist development in 2026. How vital is local, on the ground support in an era dominated by streaming and social media algorithms? Are we losing the essential role of community and DJ culture in breaking new artists? OG Yaya’s perspective suggests that for a scene to truly flourish, it needs more than just online buzz it requires a dedicated and collaborative effort from everyone involved. What are your thoughts on the power of a unified local scene?

Tour is over and it couldn’t have went any better, so many heartfelt songs were made and I’m grateful for every moment. Thank you so much to the artists that trust me with their vision. I wake up thrilled everyday to be able to create with such beautiful souls. I’ll definitely be doing more “producer tours” from now on, these are what I live for

What cities should I hit next time?
