PROJECT ONE WAVE 🐋🐚🏴‍☠️🌊
led by @seashellcsc & @neptunespirates, supported by @viviennewestwood

Last month I had the privilege of visiting Scotland on a mission to remove ghost nets and marine debris from the idyllic island of Little Cumbrae. 5 vessels took +30 participants over to the uninhabited island to get to work. It was beautiful to be joined by environmentalists, conservationists, campaigners and artists who are incredibly passionate about seeing a brighter future for our planet 🌎🌊🌟

What appeared to be a pristine island from afar turned out to be shockingly polluted. Pollution poses extreme harm to marine mammals, with around 300,00 becoming entangled in ghosts nets every year. We collected an obscene amount of nets, rope, plastic-stemmed cotton buds, plastic nurdles and more. The Scottish coast is abundant with marine life like seals, porpoises, basking sharks and dolphins, many of which will spend a lot of time undisturbed around this island. This pollution contaminates their waters, blocks their digestive tracts and entangles them to their death.
It can be overwhelming standing in front of so much pollution, which is why collaboration is so important - to share the load and keep motivated! I learnt so much from everyone on this mission and left Scotland feeling inspired and hopeful, thank you all 🪸🩷🦭

Everyone can play a role in looking after the planet. Local beach cleans, cutting out single use plastics and reducing your consumption of seafood are small, impactful changes everyone can implement into their lives! 🌊🦭🩵🌟
