Bacteria from your gut is leaking into your blood right now. Here’s how it happens.

@drjoshaxe, @thedrtomobryan and @drmarkhyman break it down in Transcendence.

There’s a barrier between your intestines and your bloodstream. Your gut lining. It’s one cell thick.

When it’s inflamed, larger holes open up. Undigested food particles, toxins and bacteria pass straight into the blood. Your immune system sees something foreign and attacks. Exactly as it should.

The problem is when that response doesn’t stand down.

Research on gluten and intestinal permeability found something most people have never been told. When humans eat wheat — not just people with celiac — the gut lining becomes more permeable.

Here’s why that usually doesn’t matter. Your gut lining rebuilds itself every three to seven days. Like a snake shedding skin. It tears, it heals. Tears, heals. Day after week after month after year.

Until one day you don’t heal anymore.

Once that immune response is running, it starts hitting your own tissue. The joints, and it looks like rheumatoid arthritis. The thyroid, Hashimoto’s. The colon, Crohn’s. The muscles, fibromyalgia.

Then Mark adds the part I keep thinking about.

Fifty years ago researchers stored blood samples from 10,000 people and tested them for celiac. They compared those to 10,000 people today.

A 400% increase.

Same genes. Four times the disease. It isn’t a fad. Something changed in the food, not in us.

None of this is a reason to stop what your doctor has you on. It’s a reason to ask a different question.

So tell me — has anyone ever looked at your gut? 👇

Josh, Tom and Mark are three of 35 people I sat down with for Transcendence, alongside @drlibby, @brucelipton and @thefoodbabe. A series about healing, transformation, and reclaiming sovereignty over your body, your mind and your life.

Arthritis, Hashimoto’s and celiac are all autoimmune diseases. They get treated as three separate conditions by three separate specialists. There’s growing evidence they share a starting point — and it’s not where anyone’s looking.

Hippocrates said it 2,400 years ago: all disease begins in the gut. We’re only now catching up to what he meant.

Your gut lining is one cell thick. That’s the entire barrier between what you ate and your bloodstream. It rebuilds itself every few days, which is remarkable — as long as nothing keeps damaging it faster than it can repair.

When that lining is compromised, things cross the barrier that were never meant to. Undigested food particles. Bacteria. Straight into the blood.

Your immune system does exactly what it’s supposed to do. It sees something foreign in the bloodstream and attacks.

The problem is what it attacks next.

Once that immune response is switched on and stays on, it starts hitting your own tissue. The joints, and it looks like rheumatoid arthritis. The thyroid, and it looks like Hashimoto’s. The gut itself, and it looks like celiac.

Three diagnoses. Three specialists. One immune system responding to one breach.

That’s why Dr Axe says you can clean up the diet and still not heal. If the barrier is still open, the immune response never stands down.

To be clear: none of this is a reason to stop what your doctor has you on. It’s a reason to ask a different question.

So tell me — if you’re dealing with one of these, has anyone ever looked at your gut? 👇

Wait, what? Eating more fruits & veggies linked to worse pregnancy outcomes?

@thedrtomobryan references a @harvardmed study points to pesticides, not produce itself.

Mind blown.
