BOOK REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Book: The Beautiful Ones Bleed By: @theeashleygrey •Available on kindle unlimited in the USA. _________________ I loved how this book is short stories, they are snappy & snack sized which is fantastic for being a moody reader or just needed a quick unplug! The first story contains modern day messages/lessons with society, which I always enjoy literary pieces that hold those. The last story, definitely my favorite…oh my gosh. Freaked me out, it felt like a weird/trippy fever dream or night terror. Honestly, if I was the mom, I would’ve lit a match to that house of horrors, so fast.🔥 📚Short Stories 🪞Societal Message/Reflections 👀Trippy Essence/Vibes 🩸Creepy & Gore 👻House of Horrors #horrorshortstories #horrorfans #kindleunlimitedbooks #scarybooks #bookreviews

For April, I decided to theme my reading: books by people I know in real life. And as such … I won’t be picking any favorites this month, but I will list some descriptions below. I hope you find something that intrigues you and that you enjoy my friends’ work. The books, in the order I read them this month (continued in the comments because this caption is so long): “Stepping Back From the Ledge: A Daughter’s Search for Truth and Renewal” by Laura Trujillo: Oh my heart. A well-written and heartbreaking memoir of Laura’s processing her mother’s suicide three months after Laura’s family moved to another state — and six months after Laura told her mom a long-silent secret: that her stepfather had sexually abused her for years when she was a teenager. It is a story of guilt and forgiveness and despair and hope and hopelessness and finding your way through all of it with words. “I Am Faithful” by Jenny Irish: I’ve read and enjoyed other work by Jenny through the years — including “Lupine” and “Tooth Box” and “Hatch” — but this short-story collection was actually the first book of hers I bought after I started attending her community writing workshops. These stories are written with spare, poetic language that can slide a knife into your gut when you’re not looking, stories of aching New England lives, of poverty and what desperate choices it can drive a person to.

“Smitty: My Marriage to Serial Killer Charles Schmid, the Pied Piper of Tucson”by Diane Schmid and Marshall Terrill (Marshall is a co-worker): This book introduced me to some Arizona history I wasn’t aware of — Charles Schmid, who killed three young women in the 1960s in Tucson. It is written from the viewpoint of Diane Schmid, who married Charles when she was only 15. Two weeks after they were married, Charles was arrested. Diane shares the story of the trial, her love for Charles despite everything, and the tragic turns her life took. Continued in comments.) 1/? A stack of books: “Smitty: My Marriage to Serial Killer Charles Schmid, the Pied Piper of Tucson”by Diane Schmid and Marshall Terrill, “A Suffragist’s Guide to Antarctica” by Yi Shun Lai, “The Lowest Basin: Arizona Stories” by Jonathan Danielson, “Stepping Back From the Ledge: A Daughter’s Search for Truth and Renewal” by Laura Trujillo, “I Am Faithful” by Jenny Irish, “A Maiden’s Prayer: A Family Story Set in 1970s Sri Lanka” by Srianthi Perera, “Rockaway” by Tara Ison, and “The Beautiful Ones Bleed” by Ashley Grey.

🧡MARCH READS🧡 I read 12 books this month! Usually I don’t get to read this much. They were 9 e-books, 3 audiobooks, and 0 physical books. 📚 6 books were ARCs/ALCs and 6 were for fun. 🤩 I was sad I didn’t get to read a physical book but my kindle is so accessible! It was a good reading month for me. 🥰 #marchreads #monthlywrapup #booklover #bookish ⁉️ QOTD: What was your favorite book you read in March?
