Much love to my friend @theericbarber for giving me my flowers a few weeks ago.

As he presented this wonderful gift to me during The Sleepover Showcase he said “I know you’ve been going through a lot, but I wanted to give you your flowers…”

What’s so dope and beautiful is he had no idea I told my former coworker @briray9 I wanted this set the Christmas before last.

This one's been sitting in the vault. "Californians" — DKT x Boldy James x Sainvil. Detroit streets meet that California lifestyle.

This one flew under the radar for too long. Detroit King Tape was on another level. 🫡🐐⚡️

I’ll never forget the night I saw Vinnie Paz live. 2010. He was on tour with Immortal Technique, rolled through The Recher Theatre in Towson, Maryland — a 30-minute drive from Baltimore. Historic venue. 700-cap room that’s hosted Linkin Park, The White Stripes, Slayer, Sonic Youth, Judas Priest.

I somehow convinced my wife at the time to come with me. Audacious move — her idea of rap was Ying Yang Twins and Lil Jon. She rolled with it. That night became one of the most unforgettable shows I’ve ever attended.

The Recher was a haze of cigarette and weed smoke, dim lights, Brittany already over it. Then Vinnie’s gravelly voice boomed through the speakers — overpowering the mic on damn near every bar. This wasn’t a show for the casual listener. This was for the die-hards.

Hundreds of fans from every walk of life chanting every lyric, word for word. A mosh pit opened up a few feet from me. I spent half the night trying to count how many teeth Vinnie was missing — a testament to the grit of a man who really does not give a f*ck.

That was the only time I caught him live. After 20+ years of touring, he’s stepped back. Mostly festival appearances now.

Now He’s Fighting the Algorithm

Vinnie’s leaned into the business side — direct-to-consumer, building real connections with his fans. But like every independent artist, he’s stuck paying billionaires for ads just to reach the audience HE built.

He vented on IG: “It’s ironic to rail against these platforms while on the platform, but we’re tired of running on the content hamster wheel for billionaires… a decade plus spent building a community on each platform only to have it gatekeeped and monetized by a new gang of billionaires. It’s the old emperor just in tech bro clothes.”

His move? Pull fans to his email list at JMTStore.com. First access to new music. Real connection. No middleman.

Support the Legend

Nearly three decades. 20+ albums and mixtapes. End of Days. Cheesesteaks. Happiness is Just a Word. I Am the Chaos.

This industry forgets its veterans. No healthcare. No dental. No mental health support. Unacceptable.

Prodigy of Mobb Deep gave us more than “Shook Ones” — he gave us his whole story, and the best way to take it in is the audiobook, because the man reads it himself.

Think about that for a second. This isn’t some hired narrator with a smooth radio voice. It’s P, in that deep, flat, unmistakable Queensbridge tone, telling you about his own life.

A Life Most People Never Knew

The privileged childhood around music royalty like Diana Ross and Dizzy Gillespie. The family tragedy that flipped everything. The Queensbridge projects. The rise of Mobb Deep alongside Nas, Big, Pac, Jay, and Wu-Tang. The drugs, the crime, the prison bid. And the sickle-cell anemia he fought his entire life — the same disease that took him in 2017.

Why the Audiobook Hits Different

That’s what makes the audio version land so hard. Prodigy died the same year a lot of people discovered this book. So pressing play now feels less like a memoir and more like sitting across from him while he gives you the game one last time. Roughly 13 hours of P telling his own truth, no filter, no sugarcoating.

Some of it’ll make you respect him more. Some of it’ll make you shake your head. He doesn’t dodge either way — he lays it all out and lets you judge. That’s rare for any memoir, let alone one from a rapper protecting a legacy.

Fat Ray’s Santa Rosa Is His Best Work Yet

I met Fat Ray on a night that felt like a Cannabis Cup event. Detroit OG Filthy Rockwell took me to D Tribute Social Cafe — off-duty DPD at the door, hazy air, slick bags of weed everywhere. Smokers, drinkers, rappers, all in one room.

Filthy moved through the crowd like a politician on the campaign trail. Whatupdoe’s echoing everywhere. Classic Detroit.

He stepped away and came back minutes later with someone I recognized instantly — Fat Ray. A name that carries real weight in Detroit’s underground.

We dapped, passed a blunt, talked. Before he left, I asked for a picture.

His response stuck with me:

“You want a picture with me?”

He said it like he was a nobody. Not like one of Detroit’s pillars. Never got that pic. We’ll cross paths again.
Santa Rosa — The Review

Dropped March 31, 2026, exclusively on Bandcamp. Produced by Fat Ray and Raphy, this is the most polished version of Fat Ray I’ve heard — and that’s saying something. His catalog runs deep, from Black Milk to Bruiser Brigade.

But Santa Rosa hits different. He sounds hungry. Like he doesn’t know where his next meal is coming from. One foot in the streets, one in the studio.

Standouts: “Rap City in the Basement,” “Plates,” “Two B’s,” “Fast Freddy” ft. Black Thought, “Santa Rosa,” and “High Score” ft. Marv Won.

Raphy pulls from Detroit’s industrial roots — heavy, cold, mechanical — but lands like Detroit meets Shaolin.

This is their best work yet. People will point back to this one.
