October so far ❤️
Had my hernia repair surgery on monday. The surgeon found 2 inguinal hernias. One on each side. Had a date night at the Phoenix Theatre Company to watch "Les Miserables", cake and coffee at a bakery in downtown Phoenix, and ate dinner at The Farish House. This recovery is going quite well, so I'll be returning to school next week!

My med school survival strategies that have gotten me through 2 years (& hopefully will power me through the next 2!)

1) Studying outside of my house. I try to make coffees at home most mornings, but when I need a good study day, I leave the house & head to a coffee shop. Changing Hands is one of my local favorites at the moment @changinghands
2) Staying up to date on my friends' wins & celebrating them! This means attending graduations, open houses, bridal showers, open mic nights, etc
3) Making a point to get 20 minutes of movement per day. The gym, a workout class, etc. Rep the lifestyle we preach! (& sleep at least 7 hours per night. no all-nighters unless we're on call!)
4) Puppy cuddles & family time!
5) Trying new restaurants around the Phoenix area. The Farish House is my new fav. Very good gluten free options! @thefarishhouse
6) Spending time with church community! Very grounding & a good opportunity to refocus on what really matters. @cmdaphoenix
7) Making friends with everyone I meet in the hospital- nurses, scrub techs, security guards, other med students... these people will save your butt & make everything so much more enjoyable.
8) Spending meal card money on coffee. I pack a lunch to the hospital & meal prep so I can get my 2nd coffee of the day at our cafe & not feel guilty about it 🤷🏼‍♀️
9) Water coloring and other mindless craft activities!
10) Finding meetups for Phoenix locals online & attending the many free events in the area (pilates, pickle ball, etc) @ajoy10 @ajoystudio_ is the queen of spicy pilates & I will go to any meet up she hosts 🫡🫡
11) Investing in passions outside of medicine! For me, this is wedding photography. I try to take about 1 wedding every few months to keep doing what I love!
12) Traveling as often as I can! Bonus points if I can find a conference or cool opportunity to learn something like medical spanish while I'm there, so I can find scholarships & funding to go. These trips keep me present while I'm home & I consider that an investment in my future.

Lmk what I should try to get me through Ms3-4 years 😅🙏🏻 (I refuse to do a Triathalon😂)
