It was such a blast hanging out with other artists this past weekend at the Draper Art in the Barn! I got to reconnect with old friends and make new friends. You’d be hard pressed to find a more interesting, funny, thoughtful group of people. People who will also totally leave you mid-conversation to go talk to a potential buyer. 😂

Post 3 — The Event

What happens when you bring together artists, chefs, and a community that cares?

You get Art & Soup.

This year marked the 37th anniversary of this incredible event where local artists display and sell their work — generously donating 35% of their sales to CNS to support programs in our community.

And of course… the soups.

Local culinary artisans brought their best creations to compete for the Best Soup of the Year, and let me tell you… choosing a favorite was not easy.

Walking through the room tonight, seeing the artwork, tasting the soups, and watching people connect reminded me of something I believe deeply:

Community is built when people bring their gifts to the table.

Artists bring creativity.
Chefs bring comfort.
Volunteers bring heart.

And together we lift communities.

🤍Well bless my soul and open my eyelids.

For the first time last night I went to meet, “Soup and Art” after living here for more than a decade.🥣

****(This year is its 37th Annual Show. It is designed to help support Community Nursing Services. CNS helps provide charitable health care and hospice to those who lack insurance or resources .) ❤️‍🩹

I was super happy to see artists I knew. I was so distracted by the art and artists I didn’t get enough soup😊. Opps.

Ok. So I was fascinated by Nancy Andruk Olson’s booth.

Surprise!! she also studied at BYU with Bruce Smith and (unlike me, who thought grinding one’s own paints sounded very 3 centuries ago plus a lot of work, plus loads of time) spends her time doing exactly this!! (And painting!)

Nancy uses highly colorful pigments to mix up colors that 🫒scream of olive green, and shout the 🌞sunshine of yellow. Needless to say I was smitten.

So, while my husband had a ball talking to Wayne Kimball and his wife Gail admiring paintings of his local landscapes (minus his not favorite addition of cowboys) I got a few crazy new colors.

Delightful evening.
