Think about it. Your body needs blood pressure to function. Your tires need the right pressure to keep you safe on the road. In the right conditions, pressure isn’t a problem. It’s necessary.

So why do we treat pressure at work and in life as something we should always avoid?.

When we feel overwhelmed or threatened, we can move into three familiar responses:

🔴 FIGHT — We become defensive, frustrated, controlling, or confrontational.

🔵 FLIGHT — We avoid the problem, withdraw, procrastinate, or try to escape the discomfort.

🟡 FREEZE — We feel stuck, struggle to think clearly, or find ourselves unable to take the next step.

NBA Legend @isiahthomas often collaberated with the late Malcolm Shabazz, the grandson of Malcolm X.

The Youth Basketball Camp: Around 2010–2011, Malcolm Shabazz (who loved playing basketball since childhood) volunteered and assisted at a youth basketball camp run by Isiah Thomas and his coaching staff during Thomas's tenure as the head coach of Florida International University (FIU).

Community Sports Outreach: During this same era of his life, Shabazz focused heavily on speaking out against youth violence. He sponsored a child and actively played alongside them in a Father/Child Basketball Tournament.

The "Other" Thomas Connection: While he crossed paths with Isiah Thomas at FIU, Shabazz was also a close friend and collaborator of former NBA player and author Etan Thomas. The two worked closely together on national panel discussions advocating for family structure and President Obama's fatherhood initiative.

Mental-health conversations don’t only belong in therapy rooms. 💜

We were grateful to join @thefrontlinegta for its annual basketball tournament—bringing frontline and essential-service workers together through community, sports and wellness.

Congratulations to @atulocal113 on winning the 2026 Division B Championship! 🏀👏🏾

At the Rooted in Resilience table, guests of all ages slowed down, got creative and designed their own mental-health affirmation buttons. Each one became a personal reminder:

💜 Mental health matters
💜 Rest matters
💜 Boundaries matter
💜 And so do you

It was beautiful watching children and adults connect through creativity while opening the door to conversations about emotional well-being.

Thank you, @thefrontlinegta, for welcoming us as part of your wellness community and creating space for connection, movement and mental health.

What would your affirmation button say? Tell us below! 💭👇🏾
