The HUB Office may be gone. The work is not.

The conversation continues—and the next chapter is ours to build.

From Gerry McCants, Co-Founder of the Greensboro Business League, to NC Senator Gladys Robinson, to East Greensboro NOW EVP Phil Barnhill, The HUB Office Is Gone. Now What? brought business leaders, policymakers, advocates, and community partners together for a critical conversation about what comes next for North Carolina’s minority- and women-owned businesses.

This wasn’t just a conversation about what we’ve lost. It was a conversation about where we go from here.

➡️ How do we strengthen access?
➡️ How do we create new pathways to contracts and capital?
➡️ How do we turn relationships into real opportunities?
➡️ How do we make sure the momentum continues?

The answer is action. The answer is collaboration. The answer is moving forward—together.

Because when one door closes, we don’t stop knocking.
We build new doors. We build new tables. And we build what’s next.

🚌 WE FILLED THE BUS, Y’ALL! 🎉💙
Thank you to every business, organization, neighborhood, family, and community member who helped make Fill That Bus possible. Durham showed up for our public schools!

And these supplies won’t sit still for long, DPS teachers start placing their first Crayons2Calculators orders on Monday! 📚✏️ As supplies head into classrooms, we’ll keep restocking the Teacher Store throughout the year.

So yes, we filled the bus—and there’s always room for more.
Want to help keep Durham classrooms supplied all year long? Reach out and get involved! 💙

🚌 ¡HEMOS LLENADO EL AUTOBÚS! 🎉💙

🎂 Another Birthday. Another Year. A Bigger Purpose.

Today, as I celebrate another birthday, I’ve been thinking about something bigger than simply getting older.

I’ve been thinking about Generational Health.

We hear a lot about generational wealth—and we should. But what about the health we pass from one generation to the next?

Our families inherit more than our genes. They can also inherit our relationship with food, our habits, our attitudes toward exercise, how we handle stress, and even how we think about going to the doctor and taking care of ourselves.

I’ve lived with Type 2 diabetes for more than 20 years. One lesson that journey has taught me is that our health decisions don’t have to be perfect to be powerful.

A walk.

A better breakfast.

Drinking more water.

Getting that overdue checkup.

Learning more about your family health history.

Having conversations with our children about health without shame or fear.

Small decisions, repeated consistently, can begin changing a family’s health story.

So on my birthday, I’m setting an intention for this next chapter:

I don’t just want to add more years to my life. I want to add more life to my years—and help other families do the same.

That’s what Generational Health means to me.

Here’s my birthday question for you:

What is one healthy habit, lesson, or tradition you want to pass on to the next generation?

I’d love to hear your answer in the comments.

💰 Your health may be your greatest investment.

I had a great conversation with @coachpetelive about the powerful connection between health and wealth.

We discussed:
❤️ Why prevention matters
🩺 Living well with diabetes
🥗 Small lifestyle changes that add up over time
💡 How better health can improve every area of your life

As someone living with type 2 diabetes and a former pharmacist, I’m passionate about helping people make informed choices that lead to healthier, longer lives.

If this message encourages even one person to schedule a checkup, take a walk, or make a healthier meal choice, it’s worth sharing.

One of the most rewarding moments as a speaker isn’t when the presentation ends—it’s hearing how the message resonates afterward.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of speaking at the UNC Minority Health Conference at @uncpublichealthbrigades

“Translating Diabetes: How Storytelling, Culture, and Communication Can Drive Better Health Outcomes in Minority Communities.”

Reading the feedback from attendees reminds me why I do this work. Every conversation about diabetes, health equity, and chronic disease prevention has the potential to change how someone cares for themselves, their family, or their community.

I’m grateful to everyone who attended, asked thoughtful questions, and shared such encouraging comments. Your feedback continues to inspire me to educate, advocate, and speak wherever meaningful conversations about health are needed.

As a wellness educator, and host of the Destroying Diabetes podcast, my mission is to make evidence-based health information practical, understandable, and actionable.

If your organization, conference, association, healthcare system, university, or corporate wellness program is looking for a speaker on diabetes, men’s health, health equity, chronic disease prevention, or clinical research, I’d love to connect. DM me.

Thank you again to everyone who made this experience so memorable.
