POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Dear Maddy: and this week, it’s time to discuss social media. We know how uncomfortable it makes many of you feel, when you’re having a bad day, especially.

We’ve also included a large part of Madeleine’s response here for you too. The advice in full is still featured on our substack. Link to sign up is in our bio.

Thank you, as always to the really very brilliant @thegoodlifecoaching for your balanced and constructive approach to dealing with these issues 🫶🫶🫶

What does it really take to build confidence and create a life you enjoy? This week’s guest on the One Precious Life podcast is Hospitality Leadership Coach and Founder of @thegoodlifecoaching Madeleine Geach, whose work takes her inside some of the UK’s best restaurants, coaching chefs, founders and hospitality teams.

We talk about:
Why so many successful people still carry the self-doubt they learned at school.
Neurodiversity in hospitality.
Why confidence isn’t something you have – it’s something you build.
How tiny habits, repeated over time, can quietly change the course of your life.

There’s also an unforgettable story involving an intimidating room full of chefs... and one very large knife which you see in the clip.

What stayed with me most, though, was Madeleine’s reflection on working in a male-dominated industry. Alongside the challenges, she spoke so generously about the kindness, encouragement and mentorship she received from some remarkable men while rebuilding her life.

I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

Today we launched the first of our Pass It On series Presented by @sevenrooms at the gorgeous @cafefrancoislondon - And I think everyone left the room feeling a little bit more charged than when they walked in.

One of my biggest takeaways was the Disney creative process: giving yourself permission to move between three different roles.

The Dreamer asks: what could this be?

The Realist asks: how could we actually make it happen?

And the Critic asks: what might get in the way?

Rather than allowing criticism to become a full-blown critique, turn it into a question you can answer.

“This won’t work because we don’t have enough money” becomes “How could we make this work with the money we have?” A tiny shift, but a pretty powerful one.

Thank you to everyone who came, shared, talked, scribbled, questioned and passed something on today. And a huge thank you to @thegoodlifecoaching and Tom for creating such a brilliant session.

There was SO much more, and I’ll be sharing our biggest takeaways in an upcoming LOR Substack.

If you’re not subscribed yet, you know what to do. Link in bio.

Dear Maddy: NO-ONE CARES LIKE I DO. It’s an age old problem but is more common in recent years due to so many leaving in the industry as well the lack of funds for extensive training periods. So… how can those feeling this way help to manage their own frustrations and make peace with this reality?

It’s all in today Substack, with thanks to @thegoodlifecoaching as always x

Hospitality is very good at filling every available inch of your life.

There is always another service to plan, rota to fix, supplier to chase or problem that needs solving immediately. Making space to think, create and work out what you actually want can feel impossible.

SPACE TO CREATE is a practical, interactive session about stepping out of constant reaction mode and making room for ideas, creativity and a life beyond service.

Madeleine Geach, founder of @thegoodlifecoaching and former senior leader at @hawksmoorrestaurants and Tom Ward, former Operations Director for @bao_london , now coach hospitality leaders to think clearly, lead confidently and build careers and businesses that don’t consume their entire lives.

Tuesday 22 September
10am–1pm
@cafefrancoislondon - London
Breakfast included

Tickets are available now via the link in our bio.

And if your immediate response is, “I’m too busy for that,” it may be a sign that you need this session even more than you think.

Dear Maddy: It’s a common one. You think you know exactly what your focus should be on and then it switches. It’s the nature of owner-operated businesses, it’s their livelihood and so it’s likely they will want quick action on whatever they see as a priority.

@thegoodlifecoaching gives some very useful ideas for managing this and how to minimise the effect it has on the team, and you of course.

Dear Maddy: Inappropriate comments from colleagues unfortunately isn’t only a thing of the past, harassment within hospitality is still a very real matter.

@thegoodlifecoaching has advised on the best course of action in this scenario and she called on the wisdom of Sofia, founder of @culturebar.uk too.

If seeing this gives you palpitations, you’re not alone. Just because we CAN WhatsApp our gripes to our team at 6am, SHOULD we? Probably not.

Comment MESSAGE to receive our article: Is it okay to WhatsApp my team out of hours?

Madeleine Geach from @thegoodlifecoaching contributes her wisdom: “As one leader I worked with recently put it, we need to know how to how to ‘clock off and f*ck off.’”
