Painting 50,000 bees in mural around the world and making friends along the way. 🐝✨🎨

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

From November 2023 to Spring 2025, artist Matt Willey hand-painted a mural at our home on Stiles Ave, across from Enmarket Arena. 🐝 It's one stop in his 25-year mission to paint 50,000 bees around the world. He invited Savannah to stop by and talk while he worked, because for him, the hive is about collaboration. Now the project has its own page on The Good of the Hive. 🐝 Welcome to BeeTopia.

This week we had the honor of hosting the Robinson Institute of International Business, and it was a joy to see people from around the world gather to learn about pollinators and the essential role they play in our ecosystem.

Hosting moments like this is exactly why BeeTopia exists. Our mission is to protect bees and the world they sustain, and it starts with sharing what we love with curious minds.

Thank you to everyone who spent time with us. Every conversation about pollinators helps the planet a little more. 🍯

I came across these forgotten footages and began placing them beside one another. Only now do I understand why they have such a hold on me.

They say the Great Wall can be seen from the Moon. Perhaps only the old Moon has witnessed it all- the dynasties rise and fall, the flags change color above the fortresses, and beneath all those vast movements of history, each small human simply carrying stones up the mountains. They were the ones who mixed the very rice that sustained them into the mortar, who sang songs that would one day be buried in oblivion. And now, perhaps, they have returned as flowers blooming along the path. To be a flower is simply to bloom, and then to wither. To leave no mark, and no longer be haunted by the question of whether one’s existence will endure.

I placed my hand upon a wall built from thousands upon thousands of human hands.

Meet Matt Willey. He's an artist on a mission, which he calls The Good of the Hive, to paint 50,000 honeybees around the world to bring attention to the importance of pollinators. 🐝 @thegoodofthehive

He's currently in Vermont, teamed up with the One Hive Foundation to hand-paint his bees on a barn at Champlain Valley Apiaries across from Field Days. @one_hive_foundation @champlainvalleyapiaries

After 11 years and work across five continents, Matt says he’s painted about 12,000 bees. 🎨

The One Hive Foundation is based here in Vermont and supports pollinator health and ecologically responsible agriculture. 🍯

🐝 Today, we’re celebrating the ones who make it all possible.

To make just one pound of honey, a hive of bees will visit nearly 2 million flowers — flying the equivalent of more than twice around the earth. Every jar is the sum of thousands of small, precise journeys.

Happy National Honey Bee Day to the tiniest, hardest-working creatures we know. Want to help them out? Plant something that blooms, skip the pesticides, or leave a little wild corner of your yard just for them.

Save the bees and love the honeybees. 🍯
