Hey Western students! We’re looking forward to seeing you all at our meeting this Wednesday, 10/21/26 at 6pm for fly tying and a movie night. We will be meeting in the Ice Lab (aka Ridgeline) located in the Escalante Complex. Fly tying tools and materials will be provided. Please feel free to dm us with any questions!

Hey Sockeyes! We’d love to see you at our club meeting this week Wednesday at 6pm in the Ridgline (a.k.a The Ice Lab) for some fly fishing trivia and fly tying! If you plan on attending our trip to the Fryingpan River this weekend, please stop by our meeting on Wednesday so we can discuss the details of the trip. If you can’t make it to the meeting but want to attend the trip, dm us and we will try to find a different time to talk with you. Additionally, everyone will need to pay their semester dues ($15) in order to attend the trip. We also have a google form linked in our bio for anyone planning to join us this weekend. Please feel free to dm us with any questions!

Hey Sockeyes! We’d love to see you all at our meeting tomorrow! We’ll be fishing the lower Taylor at 5 mile bridge. We’re leaving from the Pinnacles parking lot at 4pm if anyone would like to carpool. Also, we’ll be posting the RSVP form for our trip to Glenwood Springs over mid fall break (October 16-18), so keep an eye out!

there’s gold in them there hills

I finally experienced the aggression of Brown Trout, my research paid off. Euro nymphing with a jig streamer, I took some false casts to gauge my distance in order to put my best boot forward with my first presentation. The fly was placed perfectly and I focused on eliminating slack and getting contact with my fly as soon as possible - as well as giving it some action. Plop, twitch, and an explosion of yellow was all I saw in that half of a second. The rest is history.

Lots of time spent wandering the edges of bodies of water, and I’ve fished for lots of different freshwater fish on the fly rod but nothing has fascinated me like carp. Trout may take me to high country lakes and have striking red and orange colors but I’ve never caught a 35in+ 30+ pound trout.#americancarpsociety #fuckadink #flycarping #fly #stinky
