Yo back in 2016 I was 18 years old + just started rapping. I was apart of this hip hop group when i first got to Grambling state university. My freshman year @erykahbadu came back to her alma mater to perform @ my first HBCU homecoming. We would later find out her niece Diamond ( @dtxdime )was in our group, and would go on to create a song called “HBCU” an ode to our college days.
One day her mama (coco @nayrokudab ) came our dorm/studio to hear what us + her daughter were cooking up. Lol she liked it so much she invited us to Dallas to have the opportunity to perform at Erykah’s 46th birthday @ the bomb factory. This day would go on to be one of the most life changing moments in my lifetime. I not only got to meet + perform with Erykah: who I consider my soul family. But also people who’ve I looked up to my entire life, @andre3000 + @davechappelle both spoke to me backstage. And Dave told me personally to never give up on music. I am beyond grateful to everyone who made this day possible…without it I wouldn’t be the Jamesthe3rd you know today. @erykahbadu you don’t even know how much you impacted my musical journey this day / you may never even read this. But mannnn i thankyou…+ thank hip hop FOREVER 🏆🎤🏆
