What if a co-working space gave entrepreneurs more than just a place to work?

As part of the reimagined Anacostia Arts Center, the new HIVE is being designed as an entrepreneurial ecosystem, connecting small business owners with workspace, expertise, resources, capital, and a community that can grow alongside them. Because building a business shouldn’t mean doing it alone.

With so many of y’all discovering my art in recent years, I thought it’d be fun to rewind a bit. ✨ These pics are from my very first solo exhibition, Crowned in Gold (gold leaf was my signature then), back in 2017 at @thehive2.0 in @anacostiaarts . Huge thanks to @asthnado for inviting me to be the first artist in the program.

I began my art practice around 2015/2016—experimenting, exploring, and finding my voice through mixed media paintings. That phase was a natural segue into the mixed media collage approach I’m known for today, and it laid the foundation for everything I create now.

Some of those early works are still with me and available if you’re looking to start or grow your collection 🖼️

It’s wild to look back and see how far the journey has come and I’m grateful to still be building. 💫

Shoutout to @qrcky for closing out the summer #ArtTherapyThursdays edition of our #Created2Create series at @covenanthousegw, where our focus was on “Creating Space in Art v.s. Creating Space in Life!” 🎉🎨🎟
.
Creating space in art involves strategically using positive and negative space to create effective imagery, create balance, and to draw one’s eye to an intended focal point.
The same effects take place when you create space in your life - when you strategically find simplistic ways to open up your time, energy, and physical space, you allow more time to live, create and enjoy an overall high quality of living.
.
Special thanks to everyone who attended, participated in and supported this endeavor in partnership with @covenanthousegw & @thesafesisterscircle, and sponsored in part by @thedcarts - if you missed this event, checkout our FINALE event, the #Invited2theCookout Art Show & Block Party THIS FRIDAY, going down @covenanthousegw!

“The loudest voice in our lives is the voice that no one else can hear... it’s the voice that’s inside us. Guiding us, or scolding us, or repping us up. It’s important to pay attention to that voice, but sometimes the voice tells us things that are untrue. So how do we address that? How do we address negative thinking effectively? ”🙏🙌💃🏽🎉

Wise words to absorb on this #WisdomWednesday spoken by artist @tbarnescreates at our #ArtSolaceSaturday session @thehive2.0, hosted by @artbaeonline and @thesafesisterscircle, where our theme was “Negative Space vs. Positive Space” - This session consisted of a guided art activity, followed by a safe-space discussion around topics such as meditation, affirmations, and setting up boundaries with others that may contribute to a negative self narrative 🎉🎨🎟
.
Special thanks to everyone who attended and supported this endeavor sponsored in part by @thedcarts - participants were also offered the opportunity to donate their paintings which will be sold at our upcoming community event to raise proceeds for a good cause.
.
If you missed our previous Created2Create art sessions, be sure to stop by our last round of FREE #ArtTherapy workshops at both @covenanthousegw & @thesafesisterscircle!

“In life, not everything is perfect. We kinda have to take it as it goes, but it’s all about our perspective. When you see that there’s dark moments, just realize that there’s some light in it and there’s some color. Just stay positive and hopeful”🙏🙌💃🏽🎉

Perfect words to hear on this overcast Sunday spoken by artist @tarika.art at our #ArtSolaceSaturday session @thehive2.0, hosted by @artbaeonline and @thesafesisterscircle, where our theme was “The Value of Contrast in ART vs. the Value of Contrast in LIFE” 🎉🎨🎟
