THE HUMAN GALLERY — COMING HOME TO YOUR BODY | By Katharina Thoma. After months of photographing people from all walks of life, collecting stories and creating space for honest conversations about our bodies, The Human Gallery – Coming Home to Your Body is opening at The Button Factory.

Join us for an intimate opening celebration and be among the first to experience a collection of powerful portraits and personal stories exploring body image, vulnerability, identity and what it means to reconnect with the bodies we call home.

Wander through the exhibition, take part in interactive reflection experiences, meet some of the people behind the photographs and hear from founder and photographer Katharina Thoma about the stories that shaped the project.

Above all, this is a celebration of the people who trusted The Human Gallery with their bodies and their stories.

Sunday 27 September | 4:00–6:30pm

Sometimes you just need a really good photo that looks like you. No need for hair and makeup, special outfits, studios or sunsets. Just you. 📸

@katharinathoma_ is an experienced photographer herself, so it was lovely to capture some fresh portraits for her recently.

Next month she has an exciting exhibition at @thebuttonfactorynz — so go and check out her page @thehuman.gallery for more information.

And if you’re feeling like you could use some fresh photographs of yourself, my next Portrait Pop-Up is happening on Wednesday 9 September at the beautiful Auckland Domain Winter Gardens. 🌿

A quick, relaxed and affordable way to refresh your photo gallery without the need for a full branding session.

Or, if you need something more comprehensive, you can book a branding session with me anytime.✨

BTS with @thehuman.gallery this afternoon - she needed some photos and video content promoting her upcoming special event, and I was in need of some photos of my own. It’s so great to collaborate with other creatives here in Auckland. So many amazing people doing wonderful things 🌿🎥📸✨

|| When we become Believers! ||

I'm spotlighting the powerful devotion of Katharina Thoma and her Body Acceptance Photography!

This woman GOES ALL THE WAY in and I'm celebrating her documentary reaching 250K! She has been creating a home for her HUMAN GALLERY and this website is set to be revealed this week at 6PM on Sat 20th June!

Her story has touched so many people, because she shows us the beauty of stretch marks and the elegance of how our skin rolls - to lift the expectations and perfectionism so many of us feel here in a social media influenced society!

Her journey to accept her own body has turned into a movement! Where each persons uniqueness is captured in it's genuine beauty... even if Katharina chooses to strip down to her own underwear for the photoshoots! Lol!

For those yearning to find the calm of body acceptance and the power of being grounded in your body AS IT IS! - Follow Katharina and get ready for her WEBSITE HOME reveal happening this Sat 20th at 6pm NZ Time ✨️❤️‍🔥✨️

Please join me in celebrating this PIONEER! @katharinathoma_

Living with a chronic illness can completely change the way you see your body, and sometimes, you don’t even realise how disconnected you’ve become until you finally start to leave survival mode.
And then suddenly… your body feels unfamiliar. Your self-care routine is gone. Your sense of identity feels blurry.

If this is you, you’re not alone. Because this was me 🧡

I just published a new blog post all about how to rebuild a relationship with your body when chronic illness has shaped it in ways you never asked for.

If you need something gentle, grounding, and validating today, this one’s for you. 💛

Read it here:

I questioned a long time if I should post this. I see so much travel content and people living their dreams overseas. And it truly is the dream. I'm a whole different person in New Zealand. I get to do what I love, my mental health is way better, and I feel inspired and active. I love how people support each other and how there is always a communal vibe. I feel like I lost my place in Germany. My values don't align anymore. I'm so tired of chasing friendliness and kindness in my home country.

And still, my heart is broken. Coming home. I want to be with my family and friends and at the same time I need to think about myself. 5 years ago I left to New Zealand not knowing where I would end up. I was completely alone with a backpack. I was terrified. People calling me brave, I never understood at that time. Now I do. I grew so much overseas. I changed so much. I adapted. I broke in half. I put myself back together. I survived a whole covid lockdown in a foreign country in a terrible family. I met hundreds of inspiring people and I'm so grateful for each and everyone of them.

But so am I for my German friends. My family. That I can always reach out to. My rocks. They got my back. In different time zones. I feel guilty of moving somewhere so far away.

But I can't stop crying over New Zealand. I miss it so much. I cried the whole departure. Despite all the challenges I face there, how many tears I've shed, how it broke me, - it still healed me. Turned me into the powerful woman I am right now and down from my heart I really want to keep working with this new personality. With this inner child that finally found peace and a safe place to grow and learn.

Thanks for checking in. Thanks for reading until here. I love you. xx
